I don't know if a mod will read this, but I'd suggest giving this thread the "30 Thoughts" treatment (instead of the "Must Read Hockey Articles" thread that had this intended purpose, but isn't being used) and sticky-ing it.

An incredible amount of these articles are fantastic (last one included).

Agreed... many great reads, and thus worthy of the 30 Thoughts treatment. Anyone know any mods?

    wait a minute, I'm a mod... Stickied!

His kids will remember he was an All-Star yrs from now, and maybe a bit of the backstory, but they won’t remember how much people really hated the idea of him playing.

A very good read from John Scott. Kudos to him.

This can't make the NHL very happy, but at the same time they are the ones who allowed the fan vote in the first place. They also chose to allow this to happen, despite the Rory Fitzpatrick voting back in 2007. That's a long 9 years ago... It's on them. And they needed to honour their commitment to John Scott.

    That was a good read.
    This part got me thinking:

    “Are you ******* kidding me?”
Enforcers don’t get traded midseason when their team is winning. If you know the league, you know that it just doesn’t happen.
“I’m not sure what to say, John. This is how it goes. We’re trying to make our team better. We had a chance to get a player, and we took it.”

Did the league pressure ARI to trade him so he would not participate in the ASG?

    What do you think?

First off; that was a great piece by John Scott, gut wrenching and well said, and pretty funny at parts. Also, he was classy enough to not throw any individual management person under the bus, and even kept the names of those supporting him private.

Secondly; there is zero doubt in my mind that the NHL was instrumental in forcing the activity that made Scott ineligible for the ASG and only after the backlash did they reverse their position (which they were smart/lucky enough not to ever formally take. i.e. the league never formally came out and said "John Scott cannot be in the ASG as he's in the AHL). Bob McKenzie reported that both the Coyotes and the NHL asked Scott to bow out of the ASG and he refused; that request is the equivalent of a veteran coach being "asked" to resign. It was reported by numerous reporters that Arizona was opposed to sending him to the minors given his salary ($575k), but Montreal had no problem doing it, thus the trade was orchestrated, Scott was sent down and the NHL hoped that would end the problem. Luckily for Scott the fans were vocal enough that they got the decision (again which was never formally made) reversed. The really terrible part is that even though Scott still gets to play in the ASG he still ends up moving his family from Arizona to Newfoundland all because the NHL didn't have any foresight whatsoever.

    From Gary Bettman -
“The fans spoke in large numbers for the process and he’s going to be joining us in Nashville. There was never any doubt about that,” the commissioner said during an appearance Tuesday in San Jose, California, for the Sharks 25th anniversary celebration. But he followed that soon after with an implied threat.

    From John Scott -

So when they asked me to make a statement — nudging the fan vote in another direction and denouncing the John Scott “movement” — I did it without hesitation. I told the fans, “Listen. I don’t deserve this. Vote for my teammates.” And I was telling the truth.

“Do you think this is something your kids would be proud of?”
That was it, right there. That was the moment they lost me.
At first, when it became clear that I was going to win the All-Star fan vote, I understood the league’s position. They didn’t mince words — This is not a game for you, John — but I understood all the same. Honestly, on some level, I agreed.

NO DOUBT AT ALL MR BETTMAN! What a nob.....

Real good read from John Scott :"Because, while I may not deserve to be an NHL All-Star, I know I deserve to be the judge of what my kids will — and won’t — be proud of me for."

I also read the article of Down goes Brown about the All-star game and that "the players need to try".

Well I think Scott will try and by doing so he might be the best player out there !
