Default Gibson - is he done now?

I've been streaming Gibson while Freddy was indisposed like Luongo but now I'm wondering if it's time to pitch him. Hellebuyck is as yet unclaimed... Thoughts?

Freddie will be back very soon, Pavelec will not. So yeah, I like Hellebuyck more than Gibson for that reason.

    Hellebuyck no doubt.

Gibson is going down when Andersen comes back.

I think someone else asked this same question last week.

Pick up Hellebuyck for the reasons listed above. Gibson is a short time fix as Andersen isn't that far off. Pavelec is out for a bit.

Not to be an ass, but what does this mean? OP is looking for some insight into whether he should keep Gibson rostered or not, specifically in favour of Hellebuyck. When you say he's just getting started, it sounds like you think he's here to stay this season, and in a position to make a significant impact. Which is a fine opinion to have... but it would require Khudobin being sent to the minors. Do you have reason to believe that will happen?

Not wanting to give you a hard time, but I think more clarity and reasoning is needed if you're going to make this claim. Otherwise you're doing a disservice to the OP and pretty much providing the opposite of help.

For my own part, I prefer Helly both short and long-term. His situation is better (both now and in the future) and I really like what Winnipeg is building. With Gibson (and Andersen), I think there is a chance we may see a replay of the Quick vs Bernier situation we saw in LA a few years ago. At the moment Gibson seems to be the favoured choice, but Andersen has real talent, and his play could dictate Anaheim's direction.

Andersen could be back this week, but BB could also play Gibson until he loses because there's no rush to bring Andersen back as long as they keep winning...... as long as BB is in charge we will never know

But Andersen will have to come off IR when he's healthy (i.e. soon), meaning someone will have to be demoted. Have Andersen and Khudobin been so bad (and Gibson so good) that they would demote a skater to roster three goalies and let Gibson play more?

BB is very unpredictable. I can't rule anything out.

OP is looking for an opinion, folks... not conjecture. Are you suggesting they take Gibson over Hellebuyck, despite Helly's guaranteed roster spot until Pavelec returns?

Discussing Gibson (who is in the THREAD TITLE) is not conjecture. It contributes to the discussion.

Eric, come on man! You're one of the people on this forum whose opinions I respect most. The best you can offer to help out the OP is, “I can't rule anything out.” ??

Clearly, nothing should ever be ruled out. But you must have an educated opinion of who the better choice is here and now.

I pointed to the coach's unpredictability when handling goalies. Obviously a factor. I favor Hellebyuck but I'm still allowed to make a comment on Gibson. Not sure what your problem is here. Let it go. Move on.

Andersen hasn't been bad, the whole team has been bad. Their D is suspect this year with the absence of Beauchemin and it's showing. If you look at Andersens numbers this year compared to last, his Sv% is the exact same at this point (0.914%) and his GAA is almost the same this year compared to last (2.54 this yr, 2.38 last yr). Andersen isn't the problem this year.

Gibson will get demoted when Andersen comes back so he can continue to play in the AHL.
