This rumour seems to be the talk of the town today.

So it stands to reason, then, that rumors were floated yesterday about Brad Treliving thrashing desperately to get literally any kind of deal done. He told Mark Spector, the source of the rumors in question, that he is just trying to improve the team, with little indication if that means for the present or the future.

But the truly explosive part of this rumor is this:

“Treliving is willing to talk about a very big deal if he can find one. We even heard that his conversation with Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman was all about the Lightning’s obvious issues with signing soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Steven Stamkos.

The Flames would be willing to deal a top young player, perhaps Sam Bennett, to acquire Stamkos at this point.”

Well, that would be something. Bennett, for those not aware, is the No. 4 pick from 2014, a slightly undersized (6 feet and just 180 pounds) but immensely skilled center who looks to lead Calgary's 1-2 punch down the middle for the next decade or so with Sean Monahan.

It is, after all, a rumour. Who really knows how much truth there is to the story.

Yeah I saw this rumor in another article somewhere, can't remember where, maybe reddit, but I don't put too much into it.

I think we are going to hear a lot Stamkos to X team rumors this year.

I think Calgary, like Columbus, is just scrambling so they are making trade inquiry calls.

He has control, and it won't happen. I'm sure Treviling asked that part would be true but Yzerman won't move Stamkos unless he is forced to in the offseason or they're out of the playoff hunt by some disastrous turn of events.

Would be shocked to see any team acquire Stamkos until later in the year when they have at least some degree of assurance that he'll resign with them. The price is too steep; the rationale to trade for him is not there without confidence he's gonna stay. If he doesn't resign with Tampa by Spring though, I'd certainly be shopping him if I were Yzerman.

That said, I'm completely oblivious to the rules that govern those things. Is another team allowed to negotiate some sort of "trade then sign" proposal?

Kovalchuk? Jeff Carter and Richards? Kessel? Thornton? Ray Bourque+Andrechyuk? Nieuwendyk? Patrick Roy? Wendel Clark? Lindros/Forsberg?

Not all are top 10, but a lot are top 10 at their position at the time.

Ill go out on a real limb here...lol He will either be traded or locked up. I don't see any in-between etc. Either he gets like 8years at 80-90Mil or he will be traded before mid-season. I think part of it may have to do with Vasi recovering as I think Bishop is a big part of the Stammer equation.
Personally, I think they trade him ...if they get a GM "panicking" ..soon. If not, mid-season is my guess.
Could I see a Bennett + Ferland + Poirier/Granlund/Kylington base? I think that is something that could be entertained, but I think Yzerman could push for more..

They would lose him for nothing when he signs with Toronto on July 1.

I think the only guy comparable to Stamkos is Kovalchuk. The rest of those guys were traded under different circumstances and Kovalchuk was really only traded because he wanted out
