I have a pretty good idea, just want to see what other choices people might make. Below are the list I have to choose from. It is a bit of a rebuilding year for me. Our pool allows for the protection of 11 players (of 10F/5D/2G format but i'm dropping all my goalies for sure). Our pool counts points and +/- so keep that in mind. Also I have JVR signed to a long term contract (for good or ill, we have a complex league) so I have to keep him or pay a 20$ penalty to dump which I won't do. So given all of that... Who would you keep?
Dupuis, Pascal F - PIT
Hudler, Jiri F - CGY
Killorn, Alex F - TB
Scheifele, Mark F - WPG
Spooner, Ryan (R) F - BOS
Stone, Mark F - OTT

Wilson, Colin F - NAS
Russell, Kris D - CGY
Vatanen, Sami D - ANA
Wideman, Dennis D - CGY
Backlund, Mikael F - CGY
Conacher, Cory F - (N/A) Free Agent
Girgensons, Zemgus F - BUF
Glencross, Curtis F - (N/A) Free Agent
Lindholm, Elias F - CAR
Morin, Jeremy F - CHI

If you're rebuilding, I'd trend toward the younger high upside options. I'd actually be ok holding onto JVR because IMO he may be traded to a better team and thus have more value.
Can you keep Shattenkirk?

Oh how I wish I could keep Shattenkirk! Alas no. I drafted him young, had him for 2 years, then signed him to a 2 or 3 year contract, which ended this past year (So I've owned him his entire NHL time more less). Thus he will be released into the general pool for everything to attempt to draft, however I suspect he will cost a lot more money than I signed him at (we have a bidding draft)... I'll probably attempt to sign him again, but I can't protect him anymore...
I hadn't really given Zemgus or Lindholm much of a look... I like their talent, but the teams they plan on are sooo bad, and neither show much inclination to get better anytime soon. Because the count +/- it really takes a hit, as you actually lose points... So 39pts for example is pretty good for a upcoming young player, however the -23 works out to 16pts, which is pretty fantasy irrelevant... I *did* get lucky with Calgary last year, getting a bunch of players cheap that no one wanted for the same reason, and that worked out... however that was pretty lucky, and they were all drafted for next to nothing and not protected... Anyway not sure what either team has done to make themselves better... though perhaps worth a roll of the dice... odds are I won't be really in contention anyway this year (though you never know)...
The ones I were looking at were Killorn and Dupis for last two slots, and possibly taking a flyer on Morin... Dupis is the opposite side of the coin... maybe he only gets 25 or 30 pts, but if he is +30 on Pens he's suddenly not so bad. Who knows about Morin, how much he'll play or what line... However some high risk, but possible big return... I have to guess Chi likes him, as they traded him away, then traded to get him back again. Only reason to do this I would think would to put him in a place where he might get more ice in the NHL where they could not as the time, and then get him back now they they do... possibly. maybe. #whoknows.

Thanks for clarifying on Shatts, sounds like you got a lot of value out of him over the years.
I get the +/- issue, but Dupuis to me is just an uninspiring player
Dupuis has 31 pts combined over the last 2 seasons and is +8 combined. At age 36 and with his injury record, I just do not want any part.
Killorn is a much better option. I'd go Girgensons right now over Lindholm. Dailyfaceoff has him playing with Eichel & EKane; if that happens it could be quite good.
So, Killorn + Girgensons

Dupuis and Killorn are probably third line options this season with the emergence of other guys on their respective teams (Kessel / Drouin). Then again, I would still prefer Killorn on a really good team -- getting some top-six TOI with Stamkos potentially -- over a guy like Kris Russell any day. I would keep:

Lindholm
