Montreal Canadiens
Off season grade = C
Key players in = Sikura, Kovalchuk, Meier, Allen, 2 x 2020 1sts
Key players out = Arvidsson, Pirri, Hall
Moving out Hall and Arvidsson was a tough call, but Hall enables the GM to bring in one of the best multi-category young players in Meier was a bold move. In addition the Canadiens added two first round picks next year, both likely lottery picks could help propel this rebuild. Bringing in Allen was a low risk, high reward acquisition if he can wrestle back the starters gig in StL.
Season outlook = 22nd
It will be a long season, but the GM has strategically re-tooled this team and is poised for a big jump up the standings in 2-3 years. The D has been completely revamped, with several very high ceiling players. Add that to the young forwards Zegras, Dubois, and Meier, this team has the fan base excited for the future. With three 2020 first round picks, two of them likely to be lottery picks next year, the rebuild could be in the rear view mirror very soon.

When are we going to start looking at having a cap floor? Could really shake things up year to year?
North London Nationals
Off season grade = C
Key players in = Reilly, Bertuzzi, Eakin, Rodrigues, Jost, Wahlstrom,
Key players out = Connor, Provorov, Tuch, Karlsson, Saad, Alexseyev, Kovalchuk, Romanov, Gustafson
Big names got exiled from the Nationals camp due to cap constraints this off season. Not many teams would be deep enough to move out Tuch, Provorov, Connor, Karlsson, Saad among others and still be considered as an elite team, but this GM did a marvellous job building incredible depth on his roster.
Season outlook = 2nd
The Nationals GM did an impressive job maneuvering the cap this Summer, making smart, long term moves to stay up as one of the true elite teams, all the while adding some low dollar, high potential youth with Wahlstrom and Jost in the process. Look out WHL, this team is loaded and ready to push for the title and will continue to be among the elite for many, many years.

Honestly - probably never.
Cap floor is an NHLPA concept to get a certain amount of money paid out to professional hockey players.
In our league (or ANY fantasy cap league), setting a cap floor won't make the bottom-dwellers any better long-term.
We'll see the bottom teams (feel forced to) add Marc Staal ($5.7m), Hjalmarsson ($5m), and/or L.Eriksson ($6m).
But those players have no upside and have no trade-value to contenders.
In the current system, "rebuilding" teams can (and will) at least stock value-scrubs or youngsters because those players atleast might pan out as a tradeable asset.
A good league must have a system that helps the bottom teams.
A cap floor doesn't help... it only seems like it might.

Oshawa Generals
Off season grade = C+
Key players in = Weber, Devon Toews, Zacha, Lowry
Key players out = Fiala, Lunqvist, Neal
It was a relatively calm off season for the Generals, although they added some nice pieces in Zacha, Devon Toews and Weber to an already strong core group. This team may surprise if some of their youthful players take a big step this year to compliment the star players in their regime.
Season outlook = 15th
The Generals re-tooled this Summer after shipping out the older King Henrik and James Neal and could be a surprise team to unexpectedly make the top tier. I have heard from one source inside the Generals brass that during meetings he won’t stop talking so the other executives quietly leave one by one until nobody remains in the room but GM Bobby. He is a one man show drumming to his own beat...I even tried to get a comment from the GM Bobby for this team report, but he hasn’t stopped texting me since I asked for a one line reply, and I haven’t caught up on all of the myriad of messages yet....
