So my WHL 2018-19 Pro draft is over so it is time to post my draft results.
First a little background. I came in near the bottom of the league the last 2 years. In 2016-17, I was hit with multiple injuries, and 2017-18 was the first year of my re-build.
This year, I liked all my JR prospects so I kept all 10 by moving 5 of them to my "Pro" roster in June. I traded all my JR draft picks and was able to gain Tolvanen and Hart as core pieces for the future as a result.
I had 6 picks in our Pro draft, but had 10 vacancies on my roster that needed to be filled by the end of September prior to the upcoming NHL season. My picks were 6.2, 6.11, 7.2, 8.2, 9.2 & 10.2. This left 4 roster spots that I needed to fill before the end of the month.
Prior to the draft I traded my 6.2 pick for Weber. I know he is on IR until Dec., but he is a beast in our settings and is still relatively young at 33. I gave up Nichuskin (who was picked at 6.2) but I felt Weber's value was relatively equal to Nichuskin in our league IF Weber comes back healthy AND remains healthy. His injury history concerns me but I felt it was worth the risk.
During the draft, I traded Vilardi & Batherson for Trouba & Berggren. Vilardi's back was a concern to me and I needed NHL players on my roster so I thought gaining Trouba was a plus. Trouba is young (turns 25 this NHL season) and scores well in our league with his peripherals.
I then traded my 2019 2nd round (JR prospect draft) for pick 6.3.
At 6.3, I picked Zajac who missed 19 games last year with injuries. Dobber has him slotted for the 2nd PP and if he stays healthy, I expect him to rebound this season and be a solid contributor to my team.
At 6.11, I picked Cole. Still young at 29, I am looking for Cole to be a top 4D in COL this year and if he is he should also see some time on the 2nd PP.
I selected Ladd at pick 7.2. Ladd is getting up there in age and his best years are behind him. This pick was all about organizational need - I needed another LW on my roster in case of injuries or to pick up an extra game or two when my other LW’s had the night off and Ladd was the BPA.
At 8.2 I selected Pelech. I liked this pick - it gave me a replacement for Weber while he is on IR and is only 24 years old. His is trending upward and should play top 4D this year. I will take a hit on his +/- playing for the NYI, but he has good potential and he is about to enter his prime.
I picked Pominville at 9.2. At this point in the draft, it is pretty slim pickens so I went with the BPA that met an organizational need. After I picked him I saw he played with Eichel in an exhibition game so I have my fingers crossed he sticks there.
My last pick (10.2) I selected Filppula. Again, BPA at that point in the draft. Nothing special to write home about and I might be able to move him during the regular season as an injury replacement or to a team needing a guy like him for the playoff stretch.
After the draft is completed, all players go on the WW for 2 days, then become FA’s. I am short 2 PRO players on my roster, but we are allowed 2 pickups/week so I should be able to round out my roster before the end of September and hope for a better finish this year.

Credit to #Moose GM for taking part in inaugural Insider Interview...
How do you feel your season has been going?
So far so good though my team is very flawed and i dont have much faith in staying in the top 5 for long
What are your team needs?
Defense and depth in general. i just don't subscribe to the fact that the team that receives the best player in the deal wins the trade. In a 24 team dynasty, depth is everything.
Why choose the team name Moose?
Wanted an AHL team name and always liked the sound of Manitoba #Moose......
Best trade in WHL history?
Ill only comment on one of mine but acquiring EP40, Necas and Logan Brown for Kunin, Dal Colle, Reinhart and Pouilot.
Trade you want back in WHL?
Sooo many but one that still stings is I traded Sean Monahan, Jacob Trouba and Seth Jones for Ryan Johannsen, Eric Gelinas, Daniel Sprong. Dont laugh.......
Do you have a rival team in WHL, a team you love to beat?
Ha. Id rather keep that to myself. Some teams/gms definitely irk me but thats half the fun of this league.
Pick 3 past/present NHLers to have a beer with?
Chris Nilan, Bob Probert and Joey Kocur. That would be a good time
Why so much love for the hashtag?
Great question.! I think it just evolved since the inaugural season. Plus everyone needs a schtick..
Stanley Cup Final prediction? Nashville over Buffalo 4-1
WHL final prediction? Hmm.. Ill take Voodoo over Pie.
You may ask Insider one question...
which team would you pick to GM for the next 3 yrs?
Tough choice....probably the Eagles, its not often you get to have 6 x 1st round picks...
Moose GM at conclusion of interview "I just want to close this interview with the fact that this is by far the best run fantasy league out there. The GMs are all very knowledgable and a lot of fun to talk trades with though i would guess most think my player evaluations are skewed in one direction"

Confusing interview, I’ve definitely owned Sprong since he was drafted lol
you are confused. Waxers and the Moose traded on the 9th of November 2015 then i traded him to you on the 15th for Goldobin.
