This will not happen. I guarantee it. You're basically saying at least 10 owners are going to go goalie, forward, goalie. Or defence, goalie, goalie. Or whatever. Why would any GM in this league, much less at least 10 of them, use two of their first three picks on goalies in a start one-goalie league when there would be so much talent at forward and defence available?

And if you are concerned about this happening, then you take Seguin-Bobrovsky with your first two picks, instead of Seguin-Tarasenko.
That's a very well reasoned argument. I think I can see things your way.

My system would really just protect stupid GMs against themselves, and being as this is a Dobber league, I don't think that sort of protection is needed.

I guess I'm just used to going to pub/bar house leagues where I'm the only one who uses Dobber or FHG, and seeing a GM wait until the last round to grab a Backstrom/Emery tandem. When I had more time, I used to do 3 of these drafts a week in September, and just pick up my money at the end of the season

Great conversation in the other thread RE: goalies. Ultimately I don't think we need to put restrictions on hoarding goalies unless it becomes a real problem down the line. Yes, some goalies are going to be highly valuable but you can get by without them - it's all about the strategy you want to use.

For the draft. I could essentially be considered an "anytime" option. I do not know that I would be able to set aside the very same 15 min period, every day for 30 consecutive days though. I'm pretty flexible with times and don't see any point where I'd wouldn't be able to get online and make a pick, within a reasonable time frame but (if I understand correctly), committing the very same 15 min time frame for 30 straight days can get tricky for me.

The settings are coming along fine I think. I was also going to suggest a bump to peripherals. I personally like more keepers, main and farm but I understand that not all 24 GMs are going to agree 100% on every rule.

In regards to draft times I pretty much fit in the "anytime" mold. If I'm stuck I can leave a list, but if I have to "take a few extra bathroom breaks" to get my pick posted, then it will just have to happen. I am a West Coaster though so evening will always be my easiest time to get online.

    As a numbers count.
    We have 24 teams x 25 PRO roster spots = 600 players.
    Roughly, we'll draft:
    360F (120 LW, 120 C, 120 RW... 5/5/5 per team)
    168D (About 7D per team)
    60-72G (Either 2G or 3G per team)

Sorry guys, was travelling yesterday and off the grid.

Great discussion! I too favour the BLK & HIT @ 0.05 and FOW @ 0.01. In regards to the goalie issue, I don't think we need to place restrictions on drafting goalies as many of the points previously mentioned on the topic makes sense.

My head is really spinning trying to figure out a drafting strategy. Maybe it will come to me once all the league scoring stats have been finalized....

    Some updates:

    1. Hits/Blocks
I think we'll keep these at 0.05 each. FOW at 0.01.
I don't think it's too dramatic of a point hike.

    2. Draft Window / Schedule.
So far - I think I've only seen 1 or 2 people say they are "after work" drafters. This ain't too bad. And most are flexible "all day".
Based on this... I'm going to scrap the "draft window" idea and we'll just do it the traditional way - send PMs/emails when it's somebody's turn.
We'll give everybody a 6hr window to draft when it's their turn. (midnight-8am EST not part of time limit)
The "after work" crew will have to submit a proxy (player list) to somebody if they are due to draft in the morning/day. (Sorry)
Once we know our draft order, we'll have everybody commit to sending both a PM/email to the next person after them.

    3. Goalies / Drafting / Keepers
I'm not going to set any limitations on goalie drafting or rostering limits.
Hoarding is a possibility... but last year's back-ups typically scored about 10-30 fantasy points. If any GMs want to draft & sit on these guys when 40-60pt skaters are on the table... that'll be their strategy.
It will be a requirement that teams have an active 12F/6D at all times on their roster - no injured guys, no AHL/junior guys. This is simply to avoid tanking strategies.

    4. Keepers
There WILL be a limit on the number of PRO goalies you can keep every year. And that will be TWO.
Teams will be permitted to keep up to 25 players, due July 15 each year. We'll call it the 20-5 rule.
MAX 20 PRO (of 25) may be kept.
MIN 5 JR (of 10) must be kept.
And your PRO team keepers may only keep two (2) goalies.
This way, there will be a maximum of 48 NHL goalies "kept"... which allows enough back-ups in the replacement draft each year.
It may also promote some trading of goalies to teams without them.

**Some teams may elect to roll 3-4 goalies through their 1 starter spot, but note that you can only keep 2G on your PRO team.**

    Discussion Item:
    PRO-MINORS "Flexing"
JR Skaters are minors eligible for gp < 100.
JR Goalies are minors eligible for gp < 40.

When you guys have done this, can you:

    i) shift a JR player up & down (at will) to your PRO team? Or is it
ii) "once he's up to PRO - he must stay there"?

    What do you guys prefer?

I've always preferred the latter so long as the GP limit isn't super low for farm protection.

For JR players, in my other keeper we have a rule that says if you call a JR player up, they have to stay on your PRO roster for that entire matchup week, but after the matchup is over -- that player can be moved back to the JR roster.

It works pretty well, and it's kind of a middle ground between calling up for life and free movement. I'm not a big fan of free movement because it puts a lot of value on productive players that are minor eligible. Essentially it's an extension of the bench. For goalies that would be very valuable.

I also have a question about our minor squad. Can we add JR players to our minor roster via the WW or do they have to be drafted?

I would prefer option 1, mainly for the reason that if a guy on your pro roster gets injured, the best option for replacement might be a guy on your junior team.

    Good question.

    My thoughts:
With 24 teams x 10 junior spots... we are really going to dry up the prospect depth in the inaugural draft.
    That'll be 240 young players with <100gp.

I think it's fine during the season for anybody to swap out any prospects/juniors players they want for another guy.
Eligible junior players will have had to have been drafted by an NHL team.
There will be a (2) Add/Drop per week limit - so it'll prohibit streaming either PRO or JR players.

Each July 20th, we'll have a prospect draft for:
    i) new entry draft players AND
ii) any undrafted players signing contracts*.
*Undrafted players (NCAA & overseas players) shall not be eligible to be added during the year.

I am ok with the current set of GP levels for JR players eligibility.

As far as call ups, I am good with either but like idea of being able to move up and down.
