Great start to the draft everyone. Am I the only one holding out hope that a player will fall all the way down to me? I've got a few on my radar but in this league I'm not overly hopeful
With the new "star" price clocking in between 7-10 million seems to me it won't be that hard to hit 100? I haven't done any math though :P
I've been using https://www.hockeyscap.com
It definitely will be interesting to see where teams end up in re: to the cap.
A lot of the stars are getting $8-10+ mil these days but this being a 24 team league... Id be surprised if someone ends up with more than 1 or 2 of those contracts.
BTW, thanks for the link (and yours too, Pengwin).

Here's one way to look at the $100m cap.
PRETEND that all 30 NHL teams roster a full $72m in cap. (which they don't... many teams are well below the cap)
That's $2160m in player cap dollars.
Divide that total NHL cap dollars by our 24 teams...
$90m per 24 teams.
And we can't average that because we aren't rostering all 690 NHL players. (30 NHL teams x 23 carrying players)
We can only roster 24 teams x 25 players = 600 players.
Of those 90 NHL players, probably avg $1m each.
So that's $90m less of our rosters.
WHL teams should about $80-$85m per team, if my calculations are correct.
Summary:
Assuming the draft is fairly well dispersed with most teams mixing youth/vets...
$100m cap won't be an issue until teams starting trading their low-paid youth for high-paid veterans closer to trade deadlines.
And that's why the $100m cap was even set.

This is where it could get interesting. With a couple of high picks already dedicated to prospects from this year's draft class things are going to get skewed a bit on the top end of the draft, and those decisions will likely influence decisions later on as well. I think we'll see a range of strategies, and I would guess there will be teams at or very close to the cap.
Do we have a cap floor?

Perhaps.
A strong team, even when building with youth should still be looking at best-player-available for trade-value.
It's obviously way too early to take a Strome/Marner/Hanifin or Ekblad/Sam Bennett... so I think the McDavid & Eichel owners are still going to go after a high-paid quality player with their 2nd/3rd round picks.
Hopefully goNucks shows up soon.
btw. NO CAP FLOOR.*
I know some leagues institute this to hedge against craptastic tanking... but if a team wants they can just circumvent them with rostering garbage overpaid players anyway - like Clarkson.
