Hey guys, glad to be here.. thanks Peng again for setting this up.

    Discussion points:
    - I'm not familiar with points based H2H leagues much, but seems like .01 per HIT, Block, and FOW is so minimal that it can essentially be ignored.
    - I'd like to put my vote in for H2H with 1 point per each category win as oppposed to points based. This seems like the most logical way to force managers to balance their team out with a variety of players rather than stock up on guys who get points.
    - I aslo like the idea of protecting 20 players, gives bottom teams a little help with getting better each year.
    12 Team H2H Keep 6

I don't necessarily mind that goalie scoring be significantly higher - as we only start 1G.
But we would have to make sure that people don't go hoarding goalies knowing this value - that's my bigger concern.

    re: Draft Schedule (Important!)
Getting to 35 players in a slow-draft will be difficult.
The key part is flexibility in a GM to be able to get onto the internet and make a pick.
Without a lot of planning, we can end up with this:

Draft GM #21: "I can only draft after work from 5pm-midnight"
Draft GM #22: "I can draft anytime before 5pm"
Draft GM #23: "I can only draft after work from 5pm-midnight"

Every time we come to those 3 GMs, we can only make 3 picks in 24 hours.
    That doesn't work.
We'll get hung up and we'll never get 35 players drafted.

[post edit: Draft Window concept will not be used. Draft will be standard choose & PM next GM. Let's do our best to keep it moving.]

I have one issue with this: Just say I am available all day, and someone who is available only after work wins the draft. That means automatically, the highest I can potentially draft is 9th? I know these are all hypotheticals as we could end up with a split of 6-18 or 12-12 or whatever, but I don't understand why my potential draft position should be decided based on someone else's work schedule.

My thinking is, we do a draft lottery, and you get that pick and timeslot. If you can't make it, you can either send a list to someone to pick for you, or you can choose whenever you are able to log on.

Hypotheticals can always "sound" bad... but, mathematically, you aren't getting penalized here.
You can ask whoever is your must trustable numbers person you know to verify this for you.

Let's say the split is... I'll pick a random one...
    7 after-works
    17 all-days

And let's check your odds of getting, say, the #3 overall pick. [And this example works for every draft slot.]
Normally, your odds of getting that pick are a straight-forward 1 in 24 = 4.166%.

And let's check your odds (as part of the "Day Group") of getting, say, the #3 overall pick using a Stage 1 "Group Lottery", followed by a Stage 2 "Individual Lottery".
Your odds of your group getting to be the Top-End Group is 17/24 = 70.8%.
Your odds of getting the #3 pick out of those 17 is 1/17 = 5.9%.
Your total odds of getting the #3 pick in this Two-Stage Group Lottery is 70.8% x 5.9% = 4.166%.

    Essentially, the line-math is 17/24 x 1/17.
The 17s cancel out... and you are back to 1/24.

There's no loss of odds for a top draft slot.

The benefit of this two-stage lottery is that it actually IS setting up a system where people aren't forced to draft at times that don't work for them.

I agree with newf. Personally, I am part of the "All Day" group, with the restriction that I am not available between 2AM and 9AM ET (Midnight to 7 AM MT), but realistically I want to be in the larger group, whichever it is, if that gives me the better draft slot.

I think everything that has a scoring of 0.01 could go up to 0.05 to give it more impact, but we've already had a different thread to settle on H2H weighted scoring Brosive. As for going higher than that, (Like 0.25 as has been suggested), that would mean a 4 hit night is the same as a goal. That doesn't quite compute. Even a 0.1 that gets a little high.

In terms of goalie scoring, I'm with you Peng. I've been in leagues where goalie scoring is too high and it just crushes everything else. If we want to compromise between 2/3 and 3/5 we could go 2/4

That`s a really unique strategy Pengwin - I have never seen that before.

I am usually an all day type but I will have limited (to no) access to the internet during the day on Aug 27, 28 and 29 (due to flights, etc.) so this will put me into the after work category.

In regards to the goalie weight, I favour W=2, SO=3. With the other weighting, the top goalie is 100+pts higher than the top skater. That is too much of a gap and pretty much defines the drafting strategy for round one.

I believe I can manage All Day for drafting, HOWEVER, if it helps balance numbers, I'm not adverse to being lumped into the after work crowd. I guess I'm saying "I'M FLEXIBLE".

Also, unless you want the first round to be a massive run on goalies, I would recommend the W = 2, SO = 3 format, as overvaluing goalies will result in hoarding.

I should be available all day for drafting. How much would it throw off the draft if it was 30-minute windows rather than 15-minute windows? I feel like someone could have a work phone call or get stuck in traffic during their time slot for 15-minutes, where that is less likely in 30-minute windows. Would there be a default list to go off of where missed picks would be given an automatic player selection? Or would GM's be able to go back and draft missed picks if their window passes without a pick?

Also, with the Minors or Farm team... have we thought about how those will progress in later years? Will there be a separate "Prospect Draft or Entry Draft" each year? Or will they be included as available players in each years non-keeper redraft? One problem we have run into in a league I am in is that obviously it can take a couple years for those farm players to reach the played games limit making them "non-prospect eligible" and it has really de-valued the "Entry Draft" we have each year because everyone is hoarding guys they took in previous drafts.

Maybe that second bullet has been addressed. Sorry if I missed it.
