Getting things back on track, Oduya's had an up and down year but he's been a great driver of possession for awhile now. Not sure how much he has left after so many long runs to the playoffs but I imagine his experience could be a real asset for the Avs and at a position of obvious need.
Like every other team with a need on defense, my #1 solution would be Andrej Sekera since unlike most of the other UFAs he's still in his 20's with several years to offer before getting worn out. Think of him like Oduya before he landed in Chicago.

When you look at Tampa, they've proven that it's not quite as hard to get "top-4 D" as it's lamented to be. Obviously they drafted Heds, then added Stralman via UFA and paid pretty big prices (in futures) to get Coburn and Garrison via trade.
With EJ and Barrie already in, and ROR (supposedly) on the block, signing Oduya (or Sekera) as a UFA and then getting a top-4 in a ROR deal... well COL's D just got better in a real hurry. Throw in an emerging Bigras and an Elliott/Siemens 6-7 and they've gone from brutal to more than acceptable quickly.
That was a very long-winded way of saying "I like this (type of) move for COL"...
