With the 29th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers are pleased to select... from Swift Current Broncos of the WHL... Jake DeBrusk.

Said Hextall: "We're very fond of Jake's work ethic. He's got great hockey sense and sees the game form well. In the smaller, faster NHL his mindset is going to allow him to really anticipate play. He's a bit undersized as a top line winger, but we really foresee him anchoring the second line of the Flyers in a couple years time."

With the 31st pick, the Buffalo Sabres are proud to select goaltender Ilya Samsonov.

The Sabres are excited to land a player they were thinking of drafting with their second 1st round pick. Samsonov will fill a huge hole in the Sabres goaltending depth chart, as he has the potential to be a very good goaltender.

Corey Pronman from ESPN describe Samsonov :
Another goalie prospect who didn't get a ton of playing time this season, Samsonov was very impressive at the junior and international levels -- when he did play. He screams "upside" as a bigger netminder who moves like he's 5-10. Samsonov can make some very acrobatic saves, exhibits quick feet out of his butterfly and has a solid glove hand.

With the 33rd pick, the Oilers select from the Czech Republic, 6'5" goalie Daniel Vladar.

All the pieces seem to finally be falling into place for the Oilers this off-season. With McDavid, RNH, and Draisaitl, the Oilers suddenly have some depth at center. With Nurse, Klefbom, and Zboril (pick #16), the blueline is showing some promise, and with Brossoit and now Vladar, the Oilers will almost certainly have a star goalie for the future.

Even at 6’5”, Vladar possesses elite quickness and athleticism. With the Oilers planning to acquire a veteran net-minder via trade or free agency, Vladar’s services won’t be required for a few years at least, so he can continue to hone his skills in the Czech Republic and gradually make the transition to North America at his own pace.

"With the 34th overall draft pick, Columbus Blue Jackets select, from the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, Brandon Carlo."

Craig Button provides his comments on the player selected:
A smooth, mobile defending type defenceman. He can break up the cycle and gain possession for his team. He takes space away from opponents and is a difficult player to break down because of his skating. Has a real steadiness to his play and goes about his tasks in a nondescript manner. Effective moving puck but not considered an offensive contributor.

Carolina Hurricanes GM, Ron Francis walks up to the podium and receives a warm welcome from the crowd at the BB&T Center. He acknowledges their welcome with a little wave and steps to the mic and says:

"With the 35th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the Carolina Hurricanes are pleased to select.....

From the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL, Filip Chlapik".

    Scouting report:

Filip Chlapik is a very smart playmaker, he has the hockey IQ to anticipate plays, the vision to see openings, and the passing skills to thread the puck through small openings and put it on the tape for his teammates. He loves to move the puck and then get himself into an open spot for the give and go. Chlapick is a strong stickhandler who is able to protect the puck, and slow the game down in the offensive zone, extending plays and allowing his teammates to get open. He can also score goals as he has a powerful shot, and quick release. He also has soft hands to finish plays in tight. Chlapik has decent height, but he could stand to add some more muscle, and upper body strength to his frame going forward. That said he has not been afraid to battle in the corners or in front of the net. He isn’t a big hitter, but Chlapik isn’t afraid to get to the gritty areas of the ice.

These next two picks sent to me via PM.

After Burke stole Sweeney's spotlight in round 1, bringing back traumatic memories of playing in the shadow of Bourque, Sweeney tells Sea Bass to go stand guard at the Cgy table and bring Kevin Lowe in case it's "Barn Time".

Sweeney strides confidently to the podium, thanks the FLA fans and congratulates CHI on winning the cup before announcing: "With the 37th pick in the 2015 draft, the Boston Bruins are excited to select, from HC Kosice, Eric Cernak".

Unfortunately, due to this being the second round, the podium mike is off and Jeremy Jacobs has to make the call from the draft table.

"Boston selects Erik Cernak!"... "and ticket prices are going up 10%".

In an interview with Sportsnet, Sweeney states that after taking a flashy forward in the 1st round, they wanted to focus on a D man with their 2nd pick. And while they would love if he developed the way Z did, the team felt adding a player of Cernak's size and skill to their young trio of Hamilton, Krug and Morrow would help add a new dimension to round out the group.

The Columbs Blue Jackets select defenceman Noah Juulsen from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.

    Craig Butto's scouting report:

"Noah is a strong competitor who wants to make a difference in the defensive and offensive zones. He is good with the puck and with improvement in his agility and quickness, his game will become that much stronger. He has a good feel for situations and makes solid plays. Not spectacular in any sense of the word but has that ‘can do, will do’ approach to winning."

With the 39th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft the San Jose Sharks select American forward Jordan Greenway. After going with a defenceman with the first selection, we felt we should add a forward to the ranks that fits in well with some of the bigger bodies we have with the big club.

Greenway is a big, heavy winger that shows surprising mobility for his size, in fact one does not ever think speed is even deficient for Greenway. Combine that with a decent skill-level and you are quickly talking about an attractive overall package. Greenway's physical tools and skillset are also backed up by good hockey IQ and compete level. While his skill level is "just" OK, he displays a very rare skillset that is relatively easily projectable to the next level, the only question mark being his offensive upside as the driver of offense on his line.

The Ottawa Senators select defenceman Gabriel Carlsson from Linkoping of the SHL.

A high-rising Swedish defenceman named Carlsson. Ottawa selects our best player available.

    Craig Button analysis:

"Gabriel is a big, mobile defenceman who can defend and take up space. Very smart in his positioning and makes good, clean outlet passes. His game is based on having a real good base of defending and ensuring his team can close down the opponents’ cycle and exit the defensive zone quickly and efficiently. Lots of projection but potential is very good."
