I was thinking the same thing, but more. Something like either:
-2 year mini bridge at 7M
-6 year deal at like 35M

I think that they feel he is the future, potentially as early as next year, so I would guess closer to the latter, but they made PK earn his, and in some ways, got burned in doing so. I think they extend him, but at more per year than Bottlenecker is going with

You can laugh at me if I'm wrong but I can't possibly think how you can all think that he is gonna sign a 6 years contract. There is no way he's gonna sign 6 years because both sides will not look for that.

He really does not have the stats to sign a 6 millions contract per year right now. So that much money will not comme right now, no chance Bergevin has 6 millions cap hit for a guy with his current stats. But Galchenyuk and his agent know that he has the potential to get it with one or two good season soon. What he's worth right now is about 3.5-4 millions cap hit. Since he does not want to be locked at 4-4.5 M which is about what he would get right now, he's not gonna sign 6 years.

Marc Bergevin will not want to commit to more then 4-4.5 millions a year for a long term contract before he produces more. He's done it with P.K. Subban, he saw what Johanssen got (and they've proven more before their contract), so he will not commit to a long term contract otherwise then Galchenyuk accepting something like 4.5-5 millions a year. Galchenyuk will not accept that seeing how Paccioretty loses money with his undervalued contract.

So it's gonna be a 2 years contract of about 3,5M first year an 4.5-5M the second year. Galchenyuk will be assured to get an offered sheet of over 5M $ in 2 years and it's an acceptable deal for Bergevin.

No way he's leaving to KHL, he is american, he's in a good team, he's a star in Montreal, KHL did not pay some players since January (which is why many players are coming back).

Galchenuk's deal is a hard one to peg. I think he's being under-utilized in Montreal by design and I'm not sure how happy he (and his camp) are with the Habs right now to be honest. The Habs are using him as a winger and he hasn't produced in that spot. His camp most likely believes his true value is as a "young, budding 1st line center" but Bergevin alluded to him maybe never playing center again. I think the biggest issues for Habs management this offseason are:

    1. Figure out Galchenyuk's role and pay him accordingly (but he must be happy)

    2. Add complimentary scoring in the Top 6

    3. IF Galchenyuk isn't your top line center of the future - find one (and if so, could Galchenyuk be the trade chip?)

Right now, I'm thinking the see signs a 2-year deal worth 3.6 mil/per (7.2 mil total) but there are so many factors here.

I think he signs a short two-year bridge type deal similar to what Yakupov just got, but maybe a tad richer. Probably around 3M per year.

I agree with Fungchen3 though, he is being under-utilized right now and still has room to grow.

I like this deal too. I said 4 years because I know the Habs want to lock him in, but are weary to offer him the big $$$ right off the bat, but 3 years at a cap of 3.75per is a fair deal for both sides. Could bite them in the jockstrap long term like the Subban deal, but I think they are limited here.

    Interesting number Bass.

Interesting in the fact that the amount is healthy enough to intrigue Gally IMO. And, being a puppy, he can still sign a HR deal 4 years from now.

It's also interesting for the Habs if they end up using the kid properly and he becomes a legit 1st line C within 1-2 years.

I just wonder if Gally's agent wants a commitment from the Habs in terms of his role going forward?

Ya, I can see him fit in between Subban's bridge contract and Gallagher's long term one. Hopefully he gains more confidence and bulks up a tad bit in the offseason so that he can start off strong in 2015-16!
