He produced better after the trade deadline than before. I get that he probably won't hit 50 next year, but with his skill set and ice time I think he's a lock for 40 no matter who's on the team.

Hedman is the clear #1 here. I still think he has the talent and situation to push Karlsson for top dog at some point. His skills, skating and hockey sense is completely off the rails - if he gets more PP time and stays healthy, he could be a 65-70 point monster.

Carlson and OEL are close. I prefer Carlson's situation and he has better toys to play with but Ekman-Larsson is just the flat-out better player with superior talent. I'd take OEL based on that but it's razor thin.

    My ranking:

    1. Hedman
    .
    2. OEL
    3. Carlson

Agree with the consensus as Hedman #1, then I go Carlson and then OEL but all are very close IMO

I’m actually interested where Yahoo will rank these 3 now. The talent of the forwards on TBL have me worried, watching the playoff games Hedman does join the rush, but there’s more passing involved than I’d like. The team passes him out of assist opportunities. I’d have all 3 up on the trade block, and see what you get for it. Hedman has the talent, but I think the difference between Hedman and OEL is less than the return values of Hedman and OEL.

    AKA:
    Hedman>OEL (difference of 5 “points”)
Guy traded for Hedman > Guy traded for OEL (difference of 30 “points”).

So you can gain more if you trade Hedman and keep OEL, than trading OEL and keeping Hedman.

You really think there's only a 5 point dip between Hedman and OEL? I think there's potentially a 15+ point dip in play.

I agree. I am the biggest OEL fan out there. I think he is arguably the most skilled dman in the NHL and worthy of a Norris trophy. On pretty much any playoff team, he would already be getting Norris consideration and if he played for a team that could score, he'd be a top 5 point producer for his position.

That said, he had an unreal (and largely unrepeatable) season in 2014-15. He will not score 23 goals again next year and Phoenix will be just as bad and will score likely even fewer goals next year. OEL will be hard pressed to break 40. I think he will, but it won't be by much. I'm guessing 43 pts. Hedman, on the other hand, will probably get close to 60 pts, barring injury. I'm guessing 57 pts.
