[Rumor] Rangers making Zuccarello available

I just don't get some of these teams being both buyers and sellers. Ducks and Rangers rumoured to be selling rentals in Beleskey and Zuccarello but also in on rentals? Ducks added Fleischmann. Rangers were supposedly in on Sekera. I don't get it.

Could it be that some of the reporting is actually bogus?

Rangers I get as I think they're in on D rentals because it fills a need, however they can afford to deal an expiring forward with guys like Hayes, Miller ready for bigger roles.

The Ducks I don't get. They already had guys like Sekac and Fleischmann in Silfverberg and Palmieri. So why give up picks and assets for guys like that? Would also be a big mistake for them to deal Beleskey before playoffs as he's exactly the type of guy you need for a deep run considering he plays effectively on every line (1-4).

I think teams are just trying to see what if someone might overpay for a Zuccarello, a guy you may lose this summer for nothing.. You may be able to get a Chris Stewart(example) or Eric Cole(example) for him.. Yes you lose them, but could be more valuable in a playoff run..

Or the team could be putting more heat on the Zuccarello camp to bring their demands down??

As @JSportsnet reported, a NYR extension for Mats Zuccarello is not out of the equation, either.

Zuccarello extension with NYR is not done but getting close. Still working on NTC provisions. Likely to be four years, AAV of $4.5M.



seems pretty fair but clearly took a slight discount to play for a contender...and not get traded to arizona.
