dubnyk is starting against buffalo, time for him to steal the job. and by steal I mean just not let in 3 goals and he's the starter.

Sounds like the old Tortorella 25% rule.

For now, Dubnyk is immediately the #1 if he wins a few games. Next two are easy matchups (BUF, ARI) so there is that, then a back to back. First game after the break is vs Oilers.. Pick him up if you need a goalie and have space to gamble a little. It could pay off big, he has a chance to grab a few W's to establish himself. I own Kuemper but got Dubnyk cheap immediately after the trade from an owner who is in last place and selling. Kuemper will get spot starts as a test sometime after the all star break and is probably still expected to be the goalie of the future but confidence in him is shot for now. They are planning to ask him to take a conditioning stint in Iowa to buy some more time (2 weeks). I could see late season going 50/50 between the two or riding the hot hand which will likely be Dubnyk. Backstrom only gets back in if somebody is hurt, however he has a no-move clause so he can't be sent to the AHL. They will carry 3 goalies when they are all healthy and probably sit Backstrom to avoid injury in order to buy him out after the season. Harding is out of the picture, probably for the season if not forever. This team is too good on paper to keep losing and this is the fire lit under their asses, so Dubnyk should benefit from that as well. The window to get him cheap could close after a good game tonight.

depends how legit the 3rd round pick would be. Anderson and (especially) Scrivens aren't exactly top tier stuff, so Duby would definitely help you there, although it doesnt sound like you need it.

let this one ride out and see if you can squeeze more than a third rounder out...

Looking like 3rd or 4th pick in the 3rd round. After the 12 teams protect their 10 guys it might look something like this (last years 3rd round):

    Yakupov, Nail
    Silfverberg, Jakob
    Vatanen, Sami
    Ladd, Andrew
    Barkov, Aleksander
    Ceci, Cody
    Zuccarello, Mats
    Voynov, Slava
    Smith, Mike
