Still a strange deal though. I can't understand why Minny wouldn't make a serious pitch for Reimer. Needs a fresh start. He carred the Leafs to the playoffs two season ago before Bernie took over the starter job. Minny needs a real goalie, not just a stopgap. I'm not saying Reims IS the answer, but he's a better option than Dubnyk and (given the Leafs cap situation and Reimer's struggles this year) I think Reims could be had for very little.

i doubt reimer is going to be traded cheap, at least not 3rd round pick cheap. i'm sure part of the reason why he hasnt been traded yet is because no one is willing to give up that much to land him, where as leafs still see him as a valuable commodity. he would have been traded by now if all it takes to land him is a mid round pick.

Thanks for posting this so quickly, VV. I may have accidentally given you negative rep instead of positive - I'll make it right, that should definitely have been a plus as it allowed me to pick up Dubnyk in one of my leagues where I am near dead last in the goalie cats and just lost Kuemper and Howard to the IR, leaving Mike Smith as my only tender! Yikes!

Ha, didn't even notice until I read this. No worries, I'm too happy now that I traded for Dubnyk last week to care about negative rep I have Kuemper too so I've got Minny goaltending covered, I think.

I think Minny still believes in Kuemper and think he's their long-term starter. He's struggling now so they got a cheap goalie to fill a temp hole. Reimer is not real starting material and the asking price may have been higher.

So what is Dubnyk's value now in a one year league. I picked up Mrazek when Howard went down, but with Howard only being out two to four weeks I'm thinking Dubnyk has more value. Do others agree?

Edit: I went for it. Even if he gets a chance at the starters job it's worth it.

MN had to have a goalie, pure and simple....Backstrom & Kuemper have been terrible and Harding is struggling with his health

I can't even drive home from work and a goalie spikes in value and gets lifted off the wire.
I think Dubnyk will be OK in Minnesota.
They needed an upgrade for sure.

Valid points, but Nonis backed himself into a corner here and other GMs know it.
Bernier needs a new contract, as does Kadri and Franny, and they simply can't pay Reimer 2.3 to be their backup much longer. They can save 1.5 million right there by having a Milhouse roped to the posts for 15 games a year.

I still can't figure out this deal for Minnesota though.

I think Minny hopes that Dubynk does what Bryz did last year. Plus, they have Backstrom and Kuemper signed for next year, so bringing in Dubynk (free agent this summer) means they don't need to worry about three goalies next year (which would have happened if they brought in Reimer).

Don't think Dubby is that much better, split starts with Kuemper on a team that has quit already? They won't be as bad as Edmonton, but they'll be just behind.....

If Doobie plays anywhere near what he's been doing in the desert, he is an instant upgrade over Backstrom. That guy has been a disaster for Minny this year.
