"It wasn’t the flashy hire that Joe Maddon was with the Chicago Cubs, but the Minnesota Twins have filled their managerial opening on Monday by formally giving the job to Paul Molitor. The Hall of Famer was rumored to be the frontrunner to be hired almost as soon as Ron Gardenhire was fired, but the process was more complicated than that.
Still, in the end it’s Molitor who gets the job as he was chosen over former Twins first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz for the position.
According to Jon Morosi from FOX Sports, the Twins and Molitor have agreed on a three-year deal that will make the former player the third manager of the team since 1986.
This is huge for the Twins as it gives them a fresh manager who has the right elements of what Ron Gardenhire did well but takes it to another level. He’s unproven as an MLB manager, but Molitor will at least give fans a familiar face in the dugout. Minnesota has notoriously liked to hire from within, and that’s what this Molitor hire is.
He’s a name fans will feel comfortable with, and could be the hot hire of this upcoming season."
