Mantha and Rielly for Getzlaf

Have a potential deal in place that would send my Mantha and Morgan Rielly for his Getzlaf. It would definitely help me now, but I'm concerned about those guys both being Franchise pieces in the future. League in Sig. What do you think?

You can pretty much put the same value on any other over hyped prospects or unproven players in the league. Bottom line is you're comparing two prospects that are living mainly on your hopes (granted Rielly should be ok in a few years) versus a player who is already a PPG franchise player. If your reason to hold back is because you're hoping that Mantha in 5 yrs might become half the man Getzlaf is now, then you're going to be in for a wait. Rielly should be a 40-50 pt def in his prime but that's probably years away.

Yes I would do that deal in a heartbeat. That is a very cheap price to acquire a stud like Getzlaf.

Whoa. Take that and run. Even if they both hit, you'll enjoy a few years of elite production in the meantime (and good drafting will fill the gap).

If it's confirmed to be on the table then it's an automatic accept. Getzlaf IS a franchise piece now and for the future. Let the other manager overvalue potential and get a star for cheap.

Take Getzlaf.
I think too many people are assuming that everything brought up in the Red Wings system turns into gold.
There's no guarantee that Mantha becomes the next Shanahan (or whoever he draws a comparison to).
I like Morgan Reilly and do believe he'll be a 40pt player... but 40pt defensemen rise up every year... and some can just be snagged straight off the wire with a good eye (Vatanen, Daley, Severson, etc.)

Regarding this sentence... not every good prospect is an actual franchise player let alone a solid fantasy player. Trade your lottery tickets in for some real cash.

So at the last second, he pulled a bit of a switcheroo and demanded Trouba over Rielly. Obviously I would've preferred sending Rielly but I could tell his phone was ringing from other managers so I just bit and went for it. What says the Interwebz now? Am I still the winner?

You're still very much the winner. Moving Rielly would have been preferable with your league's setup, but it's still a good deal for you. You're looking at a young defender who still has an unknown offensive ceiling....when Trouba was drafted, and all the way up until his NHL debut last season, his scoring potential was questioned. Then he played so great last year and his value went crazy. But in the end he's still a guy who's had his scoring ability questioned. And Mantha, even if he becomes a superstar, it won't be for another 4-5 years.

In the meantime, you can enjoy having an 85+ point player in Getzlaf.
