Sources: Manager Joe Maddon has exercised an opt-out clause in his contract and is leaving the Tampa Bay Rays immediately.
I am not really surprised after Andrew Friedman went to the Dodgers to be their new President but Friedman also said that Mattingly wasn't going anywhere.

This is a tough loss for the Rays. It's becoming easier but finding a manager with that game experience to know what buttons to push and ways to relate to players but also is receptive to all of the ideas that are being brought forth by analytics. I think they'll be fine though. They have a great hierarchy in their organization. They'll be good so long as they maintain their smart ownership.

I'd love to see Maddon with the Jays but I'm fine with the manager they have now.

They're not gonna be fine IMO. All signs are pointing to them moving.

But Maddon was overrated anyway. The ultimate success wasn't there.

They didn't win a World Series so he is overrated?
