If it's for the league in your sig, I'd send him Gibson for Perry or Hall straight up in a heartbeat.
So a few managers in my league must've read a few Gibson articles on the weekend because I've received 3 offers today for him, and 1 yesterday. 3 of the 4 managers didn't have any one I was interested in, but the last one did.
"Anyone on my roster is available for Gibson, except for Rask, name your price."
Here are the notables on his roster:
- Perry
- Hall
- Duchene
- Kunitz
- Neal
- Couture
So my questions...can I take that message as anyone for a 1 for 1 deal? Or does he just mean, say Hall for Gibson + +?
Couture, Kunitz, and Neal don't interest me (as good as they are)...Duchene is intriguing...Hall and Perry are VERY intriguing.
I've always had goalie problems, and Gibson is a huge question mark...but he could also be my long term saving grace. Can I really move Gibson and bank solely on Holtby + a draftable goalie?!?! (eg: Ward, Backstrom, Hiller, Scrivens, Fasth, Neuvirth)

Try to get Hall, otherwise you're probably best stand pat and hope Gibson develops into somebody worth keeping in your 8.
I'd trade Gibson for Hall, Perry or Duchene easily. In a keep 8 I'd imagine there would be a number of decent goalies available in your draft. Gibson is still an unknown whereas the other 3 are known stars at this point.

With that scoring setup I'm taking him to the woodshed for Perry. And if he's true to his word maybe you get Hall + Perry for Gibson + Yakupov. It's completely absurd and I'd probably just ask for the Perry-Gibson swap straight up, which is a huge win in and of itself but if you take him at his word then the Hall+Perry option is plausible.
I can't imagine he means 1 for 1, but stranger things have happened. I'd easily move him + for Perry/Hall/Duchene though.

2012-2013 and 2013-2014 league champ
In a H2H league, goalie stats are very volatile week-to-week.
Goalies will emerge throughout the year and I'd be looking to skater cats to carry me in H2H playoff match-ups, so it's a definite trade to make... even if Gibson proves to be ANA's full time #1 goalie.
In a ROTO league,
#1 goalies that play 65+ games and put up incredible stats can have huge value.
For example, Cory Schneider was in a time-share in Vancouver 2 years ago.
This year, he was selected prior to Taylor Hall in my roto league with similar cats.
So... I can understand the potential keeper value.
But, of course, only if Gibson does, indeed, win the FULL-TIME ANA #1 goalie gig.
As for this year:
In H2H, Gibson could be ANA's #1 goalie by end of the year, so that could have solid value in H2H... some GMs will see it this way.
In Roto, Gibson should only start about 50% over the first two months... but if he wins the #1 job early, with a good ANA team, he does become quite the asset in full-year ROTO with those stats.
As for your question about Holtby +... it is a BIG difference in ROTO.
Holtby + ANA goalie would probably give you average, or slightly above average GAA/SV% in a ROTO league.
Holtby + Waiver Wire goalie is going to give you probably bottom 3 GAA/SV% in a ROTO league.
So, I understand the concern.
The difference is that the OP is asking a few questions.
I need that information to answer the one above.

H2H, you should definitely move Gibson and take whoever you can get of Hall or Perry.
I'd even trade him for Duchene or Couture.
But... do this...
1. Figure out which player you WANT! Let's say it's Hall.
2. You say this: "Is Corey Perry available straight up?"
(here's the "WHY?")
3a. Because he MIGHT come back and say "No."
4a. Then you say... "Well who IS available straight-up for him?"
5a. Then he'll give you a list... and you take Hall.
3b. He says "Yes, Corey Perry is available straight-up."
4b. If so, you then write back "And Duchene, Hall, Couture? Are those guys available straight-up?"
5b. If he says "Yes", then you take Hall.
Easy peezy.
But.... do NOT tell him the guy you want with your first response.
That's a big trade negotiation mistake... because then a GM will "change his tune" and say THAT guy he meant to exclude as well.
Hall or Duchene straight up
Do what Peng says, and I want Hall over everyone lol.
Agree with Pengy on this approach. In fact I would confirm that Rask wasn't available in any sort of deal, just to fuel the fire.
If he doesn't give you a list of acceptable players, then tell him you are standing pat with the next Rask?
One for 1 deal on those players is the way to go and make sure you draft a second goalie early as you should still get a decent player.
