Question John Gibson as a keeper this year?

    Hey all

In my 20 teams fantasy hockey league in which I can have 3 keepers allowed, I am considering the option of keeping J.Gibson...

Roster positions are: C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, D, D, G, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR

Would you please give me your opinion about this?

My others keepers are P.Kane (C,RW) and M.Duchene (C,LW). I also have Datsyuk, Chara, Paciorety, Bernier or Miller who could make decents keepers, but I feel that on the long term Gibson is the best option.

What do you think about that? I know he should split time with Andersen this year, but he should be a stud in the future and I am afraid that the manager who will draft him this year would keep him for the 2015/2016 season, where he could definitely get the edge over Andersen.

(Of course I could head to the draft with Gibson as a keeper, and try to draft Andersen to get the Anaheim's duo...)

Thanks a lot for your help, guys!

Gibson will not help you contend this year, so you will have to be patient. You also realize that by committing to him now, you almost have to commit to him again next year now matter what he does this year.

I would be curious to know how many of your fellow GMs keep goaltenders in this league and the categories you use to score them. It all matters.

Gibson's long term value is immeasurable, literally, as goalies are hard to predict, and I am not sure if in a Keep 3 League he is worth keeping right now. I would be more inclined to keep Datsyuk for one more year and hope Gibson is there when you redraft.

In a keep 3 I can't imagine him not being re-draftable for awhile to come. It's good that you are thinking long term but in a keep 3 you have to be more pragmatic.

There are 13 goalies already keep in my league.

Thank you for your point of view Bottelnecked. I get your point. I have been waiting for such a long time in order to get a great goal keeper, that's probably why I am already considering Gibson.

With only 3 keepers I don't think I would hold on to Gibson. He could be great in a few season, but right now I feel like Pacioretty should be your 3rd keeper.

3 keepers, no way is Gibson one of them. Even if another GM ends up keeping him and you miss out, well it sucks but oh well. Just re-draft a veteran goalie next season who will almost assuredly post better numbers. Andersen is signed for this year and next, so there's no guarantee Gibson is a starter for at least that long.

well in a 20 team league and 13 already being kept you might get a another good starter depending on where you pick in the draft but i would keep Bernier just as insurance with your league starting 2 goalies.

Gibson may possibly do another year in the minors so if you keep him your just wasting a roster spot.

Bernier or MaxPac are way better options for keepers. Bernier is a great young goalie playing for a dispicable team, but they are actually a decent team. MaxPac is the man on the Habs, and should have another great year. I just don't trust Datsyuk to stay healthy this year, don't ask me why.

While I love Gibson and think he has the potential to be a superstar goalie is this league for years, in a keep 3 you just can't keep him. He is going to be in a 50/50 split (at best) this year with Andersen, and may not even take over fully next year. Without knowing your scoring cats, it is difficult to fully judge, but for the last spot I believe it comes down to Patches, Bernier, and The Magic Man. Kaner and Duchene are locks, and for the last one I'd probably take Bernier. Especially in a start 2 G with 13 already taken.

MacKinnon, Gibson and Trouba are the three most overhyped players right now. Their perceived value is much higher than their actual value, at least for the next couple of years.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
