Default Best hockey novel I've read

If you're looking for a good summer read, I highly recommend King Leary by Paul Quarrington. It was the Stephen Leacock Award for humour in 1987 and it is funny as hell. I've laughed out loud several times so far and I'm not even halfway through. Great read about an old-time hockey hero reminiscing about the glory years. Part fact, part fiction and thoroughly enjoyable. It was first published in 1987, had another brush with fame back in 2008 when it won a CBC contest thanks to some promo work by Dave Bidini. Look it up, it's 233 pages in paperback and a great way to get your hockey fix through the summer.

I fell in love with hockey through a set of 70s "school reader" style books, called the "Hockey Action Series" - follows a kid named Dave Brodie from his Junior career through the minors and finally as a member of the Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Been looking to find a complete set for 10 years now.

I remember those. Actually, I found them recently in a box in my parent's attic. Maybe I should haul them out for my own son.

How many books were in the series because I know I have the first four?

My brother loved babcocks book, but I haven't read it. Anyone have thoughts on it?

8 in total. I'd be happy to pay you for the first four, if you have an interest in parting with them.

Sorry Savvy, but they aren't for sale. I didn't realize my mom had kept them, and I know my son will read them as he loves hockey.

Perhaps a little working together will get you both a full set!

That's alright - I'm trying to get the set to give as a gift to a friend who just had a baby.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

And look at you! I remember you when you were just a young whippersnapper with an underscore in your name. Now, you're writing the ramblings. I've been away a long time.
