Ya, that's expensive for a year and a half of Berrios but I am sure others were in the game for him too.

This makes me a bit happier...

    .For Berríos trade pessimists:

Martin was expected to dominate the minors right away, but the .281/.424/.383 he's hitting includes no power (2 HR and a .102 ISO) and his OBP is juiced by 14(!) HBP

    SWR has a 5.79 ERA and 5.16 BB/9 in 2021 — and he's not huge stuff guy.

And as a bit of a helper to this, everyone in the Tulo/Price deals 5 or 6yrs ago have done really nothing.

A .424 OBP is pretty good for a rookie. Not every player has to hit for power.

Now they're supposedly pushing for a Yan Gomes return.

But I think the idea with prospects is development. Toronto saw Martin's development in power stall. And they figured at this time, if the power doesn't progress, his trade value diminishes so they maximized it.

Not every player needs to hit for power, but Power raises your ceiling. But hitting the gym for an offseason and changing the swing a bit completely changes the projectory of a player. It's quite the gamble the Jays have taken. Hopefully you don't spend this amount on Berrios and not doing anything else.

Cimber, Richards, Hand, Berrois, and Dickerson all acquired this yr. Yon Gomes being discussed now. Pearson is available to be traded...should be an interesting 1hr45min.

"The thought is Martin's swing doesn't translate to enough power and that he hasn't shown above average skills at any position defensively" - that's what my buddy just texted me. Don't know if that's his take or someone on Twitter

Funny how quickly he has regressed in a year from being the 5th overall draft pick.

I think to note he's not regressing, he's just not developing as the Jays have hoped and are using him as a trade piece while the trade value is high and their value isn't as high. Twins could easily see it as an easy fix to make his swing unlock more power.

I would have rather kept Martin for sure. But IF the reports are true that the Jays were concerned his power wouldn't increase and have maxed out earlier than they expected when they picked him, then it makes sense they are selling high. But very well could just be people trying to justify the move.

--note-- Execs are complaining that everyone's prices are too high to facilitate trades after the Berrios deal lol.

At first, I thought "eek" but I'm ok with deal the more I read into the pieces they've moved (what's written above all appear to be repeating concerns). The club needs arms. With Vladdy and Bo being 22 and 23 respectfully, the young and talented core is well intact. Ryu/Berrios/Ray/Manoah and possibly Pearson is a strong group going forward. Go Jays. I'll be watching tonight.

Great article from Bo if you have yet to read.

    I remember the leg kick.

    I remember the BAT FLIP.

    I remember the camera shaking.

If you were watching it, man, then you know what I’m talking about. You know!!! Like ... I don’t even have to go into any more detail, you’ve got it playing in your head already. You can see it all. Dyson’s wind up…… heater low and inside…… Jose’s got his leg two feet off the ground….. and just bang. Crack. CRACK. No-doubter. Bat in the air. Stro and Edwin losing their minds.

And the Rogers Centre? Absolutely rocking.
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

What a deadline day. I can't remember one quite as jam packed as this.

The Rockies are such a joke of an organization. How do you not trade Story??

I think it's like I want him to succeed because he's a good guy.

They had like 3 guys that they should have moved. But Story is weird.

I guess they want the compensation pick and pick their guy in the draft? They use less money on signing that guy likely. Maybe it's that?

That series over the weekend felt like 2015 a bit.

Omg yep was thinking the same thing. What a fun weekend.

Now a series vs Shohei where I guess they won't see his bat as much. Which is never a bad thing.
