the Jays went after Simmons in FA who was a gold glove defender at SS. You wouldn't sign Simmons to have him at 2B. I think they know he's young and errors at SS for a young player are nothing new.

I don't think he needs to move to 2B, but this is the bed you sleep in when you have playoff ambitions and your SS is young.

They already have a proven SS in Semien playing 2B. Flip them around.

Semien isn't a Gold Glove level defender at SS. He was nominated for one in 2019, but I don't think he really deserved that nomination. A's had a really good defensive team all around and Matt Olson covered up a lot of the throws to first.

I don't get why they don't sit Bo (Or DH him), and put Semein at SS, Biggio at 2B, and Gurriel at 3B. Or some form of that prior to the Panik deal to see Semien at SS, because he is your backup SS right now.

I'd be down with playing Bo at DH for the time being, but how do you do that without hurting his ego? The kid is clearly not a good defensive player and the only reason he has the rope he has is because of his bat.

And no, Semien isn't a gold glove defender but he cant be as bad as Bo at that spot. Thats why I'd be happy to see them flip-flopped for a couple weeks to see how it works out. Im just a fan watching it on TV and every time a ground ball is hit to his side of the field, Im already thinking the worst before he even throws it. I am sure the pitchers on the field are thinking the same thing as well. It sucks the life out of a team when you watch a "professional" constantly make throwing errors they shouldnt be making on routine ground balls.

Semien has also overthrown Vlad at 1B throwing like 20ft, so even a good/average SS moving positions is hard to do.

Bo at SS is very akin to Vlad at 3B last yr. You force a player to play a premium position until it's very obvious they can't play it and then you move them to a less premium position. Moving a player mid-season to 2B might be something you "don't" do mid-season. I have heard it's a much different throwing mechanic than SS because you are now throwing across your body vs how you throw it at SS. Bo might end up being worse at first throwing from 2B to 1B than he is now because you need to move your feet then throw. Bo tries to throw on the run a lot and not setting his feet.

Haven't been watching the Jays as much as I should but any news on them acquiring any pitching for the run and hopefully into the playoffs? You know how playoff baseball grinds to a halt with all the pitching visits/changes making it so important to get some power arms in there. Offense is a well oiled machine but do they have enough pitching? Guess it's the same 'ol question. Any rumors?

I am utterly shocked and amazed that Charlie Montoyo actually let a SP finish a game. Granted, it was a seven inning game but that still amazes me. Congrats to Ryu!

Those 7 games are the last games vs Boston all yr. Weird scheduling, but this is a big swing here. Especially with the deadline on the 30th, it could show management to pull the trigger on a deal that they were on the fence on.

There is actually another series on Aug 6-8 but still it's pretty crazy that will be the final one of the year! So 10 of the next 20 are against Boston.
