And to think the current system is LESS complicated than it was before the current CBA. Plus, if you're worried this one is too simple, just wait til December and try to figure out the Rule 5 Draft! It just makes it impossible to get all the different scouting departments to find consensus on players.

Seriously though, the draft(s) in baseball are super complicated, but they're entirely necessary quirks due to the way the MLB minor league system works; especially considering there are 256 Minor League Baseball teams, split between just a silly number of regional leagues at varying levels of competition, so clearly there are just going to be more players drafted, if only to fill up the rosters. Just as a start, for the NHL you've got affiliate minor league teams at two levels: the AHL and the ECHL. There are other leagues with ties to NHL clubs, but those two leagues are the only ones with specific ties in the CBA. In the Minors for baseball, there is (in descending order of competitiveness): Triple-A, Double-A, Class-A Advanced, Class-A, Shortened Season Class-A, Shortened Season Advanced Rookie, and Rookie. Honestly, it feels like it's complicated enough that there should be a six-week course to understand it properly.

not to mention the games teams will play to decrease signing money - which also forces players to drop or rise.

@Ingolo, and to make things even more complicated, there's highschool, 1yr, 2yr, 3yr, and 4yr college students to take into account when drafting.

It's the reasons why Trout goes at like No25 (LAA drafted 24th and 25th. Grichuk was No24. They liked Grichuk more than Trout...), and guys like DeGrom at like 272, or Aaron judge in the 31st round No935th to the A's (did not sign), or Kris Bryant 18th round No546th to the Jays (did not sign), or in 2010 Golden Tate (yes the NFL player) drafted in the 50th round, No1,518th to the SFG (and he was drafted in '07 in the 34th round No1,050th by the Yankees)

This creates a whole new thread topic, but baseball prospects seem to hold too much power - being able to determine (to an extent) where they play from day one

The list of players that went in the Rule 5 draft is crazy, too. Clemente, Bautista, George Bell, Gruber. Shoot, Josh Hamilton went TWICE in the Rule 5. Luca's spot on, baseball draftees have crazy power compared to other sports.

Russell Martin COULDNT get down in front of those pitches from Axford last night. I was getting so pissed off, like GO DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND BLOCK IT! You're a vet, you literally have no excuse after the 1st "wild pitch".

Biagini, oh lord. Remember when he was good? I saw his 1 curveball and was thinking, "Damn that was good, but there's 0 horizontal movement on it and if you time it up it's gone" and then it was gone.

Kelly Gruber gets uninvited from Canadian Baseball HOF festivities for being a bit of a wanker. I am not sure if he was just drunk or what but click on this link to watch his awkward interview that led to the uninvite.

We can never seem to beat the Rays, especially not at Tropicana. I used to avoid going to games against the Rays because it killed me to watch Longoria beat up on the Jays, and having to pay ten bucks a beer to forget about it.

Happ drawing interest from Yankees and Mariners.

Hopefully Donaldson is back soon, and Smoak heats up to get some value out of a power 1B (which isn't rare), but his defense is solid where his return could be significant

Lots of smoke around JA Happ right now. Rumours say the Brewers are pushing hard for him and so are the Mariners and Yankees. Let them beat each other up for the best possible return. I dont care if the Yankees are in the AL East, if their offer is the strongest, pull the trigger.

yanks have a much deeper set of prospects they can offer back. Not sure the Mariners can compete with the yanks potential offer

Having the prospects, and offering the prospects, are two different things.
