Ya, I would expect he wanted at least 10yrs, then up to 15yrs with opt outs.

I don't know how much of a say they have when it comes to spending the big $ in free agency. They are just executing on the mandate by Rogers.

Having a corporate/institutional owner sucks because they are generally shrewed business folks who are looking to maximize their return.

From a fanbase perspective, it's best to have an exorbitantly wealthy billionaire owner who doesn't care about the economics and is doing it for passion/ego/entertainment, because the dollars involved are small for them (like Steve Ballmer). They're willing to "splash the cash" like we normal folk would do at a strip club.
