Sign Jaime Garcia. They went this route because they didn't want to give out a multiyear deal to someone like Cashner. I would have rather had Cashner for the same cap hit, even if it meant it was a two year deal.

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/ml...rcia-1.4537848

The Toronto Blue Jays signed left handed pitcher Jaime Garcia to a one-year contract for the 2018 season on Thursday.

The $8 million contract comes with a club option for the 2019 season.

The 31-year-old was signed as a free agent after appearing for the Atlanta Braves (18 starts), Minnesota Twins (one start) and the New York Yankees (eight starts) during the 2017 season.

The six-foot-two, 215 pound pitcher from Mexico posted a 5-10 record with a 4.41 ERA in 27 starts last season.

He has a career record of 67-55 with an ERA of 3.69 in 185 games over nine seasons.

Arbitration hearings go like that all the time. It happens with NHL and MLB players, it's just most players are smart enough not to tweet this out. Stroman deleted the tweet too.

Seriously, everyone knows what's gonna happen during the arbitration hearing. If Stroman wasn't ready for the criticism, then why did he go in? We all feel bad for players when the team does something, but it legit happens every year, it's just Stroman got his feelings hurt over it and decided to tweet about it. If you can't take that type of criticism professionally, then I seriously wonder how he interacts with coaches.

JD to hit free agency in 2018. I hope he gets traded now, no point keeping him around with the Yankees and BSox in the arms race again.

If anything, this hopefully appeases the fans who can understand why they Jays trade him mid-season instead of listening to them moan and piss about trading him.

The amount of money he alone makes the team is insane. They brought Donaldson in at the right time as the stars of Toronto were fading (EE and JB, EE didn't fade, but left).

When Donaldson is traded, the return will be insane though I think. He is a FA, but Toronto will get a few higher end potential players.

    I'm with you!!

The Jays are not a competitive team at this point and are only trying to act like one to sell tickets.

The Yankees were looking for a 3rd baseman... should have been all over that!

Toronto should let Donaldson come out on fire then trade him. I doubt the value of Donaldson will drop at this point vs in 10 weeks from now. But I dunno.

No way the Yankees are feeding the Jays any quality prospects for Donaldson. I am sure the Jays would be looking right at Gleyber Torres there.

I'm sure the Yanks would pony up if the Redsox were in the mix for Donaldson.. I just want the Jays to build for the long term not just put bandaids on things to sell tickets..

Go young and build the bullpen!!

This is a management group (Shapiro) who traded Bartolo Colon for Lee Stevens, Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore. The year Colon was having a 10-4 record over 16 games, 2.55ERA. The yr after the team had a 91-71 season. I think Shapiro actually knows when to sell players to make the team better.

As Osuna has said he wants to be a closer for his career, I'm curious what trading him off could bring the Jays. He has a ton of team control, and is like 22 yrs old.

True, that was a solid deal!! One of the best trades in baseball history.. Tim Drew(poor guy is never remembered) was also traded with Jabba Colon!! That was also 2002.. 16 years later, does he have another fleece job up his sleeve?? Did Cleveland ever win a thing besides a couple AL championships in Shapiro's time there??

Jays signed Hwan Oh 2mill/1yr with a vesting option in 2019. Solid signing.

How the top have fallen tho, 2016 he was a top closer.

Lets hope we get the 2016 player and not 2017.. Either way, this is definitely low risk!!

    Thanks for the update 2014OG!!
