It's funny because the odds aren't that attractive to bet on either of them...

Vlad +150 seems ridiculous considering they've got Ohtani at -600 (usually when you have such an overwhelming favourite, the underdog would pay at least double)

I was tempted to bet $200 on Vlad but at +150 it doesn't seem worth it. If Ohtanhi is 6:1 then Vlad should at least pay double if not triple.

2 days ago Vlad was +1500 or something. Nuts. It's def the betting sites adjusting to the amount of ppl betting on Vlad.

    Ohtani in August/Sept hitting:
    38games, 34started. Team is 18-20.
    25hits/123AB (0.203avg), 7HR, 12RBIs, 44SO, 26walks.0.747OPS

Ohtani has slowed down the last 2 months. Could be the deciding factor. Now here's Vlad during the same span:

    42games, 42 starts, team results 27-15
    51hits/171AB (0.298avg), 12HR, 20RBI, 27SO, 18Walks, 0.889OPS

Ohtani (he's got a lot of stats, I'm just running the top ones):
    91runs (12th), 44HR (2nd), 94RBI (12th), 23SB (8th), 0.259avg, 0.972OPS (5th), 74walks (10th)
    21games start (115.1IP, 5.49ip/game), 9-2, 3.36ERA, 1.12WHIP, 136ks.
    Player WAR - 4.8
    Pitching WAR - 2.6
    Overall WAR- 7.4 (1st)

It is not easy to make the above look clean. Sorry guys lol.
That is an excellent breakdown and it's a debate like no other.
In any ordinary year a triple-crown wins MVP hands down. Not to mention Vlad Jr. leads in Hits and Runs as well. A quintuple Crown?
But Ohtani is not just great but unprecedented and it is impossible to compare him to anything. He is an all-star level hitter and an above average pitcher.

You cannot go wrong eitherway in the vote, I hope Vlad keeps it up and wins but would not blame anyone for voting Ohtani.
One interesting sidenote I found, when looking at WAR; Marcus Semien actually edges Vlad Jr. 6.5 to 6.2 (according to ESPN) which I assume is based on having great numbers while playing quality 2B.

It's weird too because Wheeler of the Phillies is 3rd in WAR and no one is talking about him until very recently in the NL.

I'm really tempted but part of me feels like the league, the media and everyone who has an economic interest have so much riding on Ohtani's star that it's already a forgone conclusion.

Who votes? Is it the media? If so then it's already done... they're not going to make themselves look stupid

I put $5 on Vlad before the NYY series at +1900. It was a fandom bet for sure for me, but who knows right now right?

Ahh... so the same folks who have been hyping Ohtani to the moon this year in their articles. Doesn't sound biased at all lol

The same people who haven't marveled/written an article about Ohtani since July though.

Went to the game last night. Forgot how fun it is. Sucks the outcome, but there was lots of hard hit balls last night just at the wrong spot. I'll promise I won't go to another game this yr.

I put in the bet at +1500 yesterday after you guys encouraged me haha - just in time!

Ohtani's odds are coming down across the board... some sites have him at -3500 now (form -6000 just a few days ago)
