Couturier for Kesler would be a very intriguing hockey deal. Kesler is likely to be the better player for the first 2-3 years, but Couturier could certainly have something to say about that. For a team pushing to become a Cup contender, Kesler makes sense, but for a team that is looking to put some longer term pieces together, like the Canucks, Couturier is a nice fit. Seems to make some sense for both sides.

Taking on Kesler would mean that we would be invested in his 5 million salary for the next two years. That is fairly prohibitive as we have more problems on defense than we do in our top 6 forwards. What we really need is a top pairing, minute munching hulk of a defenceman. We need another Pronger. Couturier is valuable to us as his cap hit is very good and he has the ability to grow.

5 million isn't all that bad considering the cap increases over the next couple seasons and what Kesler can bring to the table. Every team would love a Pronger type defenseman though for sure.

Its the situation he is in when it comes to Philly. He is a 3rd line player there who is relied on to shut down the opponents top lines and he also is mainly used to kill penalties.

Put him on a team like Vancouver who would use him in a 2nd line role and give him some decent PP time and watch the difference in his offensive numbers.

His skating isn't the problem when it comes to Couturier; it's the situations that Philly rolls him into that holds him back from making that next step offensively.

Haven't we had this dance before? LOL!
i think if couturier was good enough offensively he would have secured the #2 center role already. philly has been weak at that position for a couple of years now.

I dont expect him to be a point per game player every year, but he will flirt with it often when he hits his stride. He scored 39 points this past year making $1.75 million as a 21 year old for the next two years. Kesler scored 43 points and he is the finished product making 5 million over the next two years.

Explain to me the upside of trading Couturier for Kesler again?
if by flirting with ppg you mean about .5ppg then i think youre right.
