Any one heard or read anything about what he's asking for or getting?

I haven't heard or read anything, but I wouldn't expect it to be all that much. He's coming off his first contract, and he didn't have the most statistically successful season.

I'd expect a deal similar to Kadri's last year. Two year bridge deal, somewhere in the 2-2.75 range.

They’re open to trade him according to Darren Drager. So might not even sign him

Look at TJ Brodie's contract for Calgary, I would expect something along those lines. Salary was $1.75m this season, next season $2.5m. Something averaging out around $2m would be my guess. 2-3 years term.

Either way; I'd expect they sign him. Sign and trade?

I guess a lot of people don't like what they see in Gardiner.
I don't mind him... to me he's reasonably solid, a #3/4/5 defenseman, depending on team strength.

If Gardiner is in Carolina... how much different is he from Justin Faulk?
And - I'm not saying he's nearly as good as Faulk, but by comparison... Faulk just got a 6-year, $29mil.

I'm still baffled that Carolina was willing to send Gleason to TOR for JM Liles.
I don't get that club... Carolina.
EDIT - actually, probably doesn't make sense to use any defenseman on Carolina for any kind of comparison.

I've rambled too long... and because my salary predictions are almost ALWAYS under... I'll go higher.
    Gardiner for 3yr/$9m.

If Carlyle lets the horses run free, I could see a Gardiner/Rielly pairing doing serious damage. Or at least getting TOR's possession above 50%

I like Gardiner. Personally on I rather trade Franson. Gardiner and Rielly have a lot of chemistry and could do a lot of damage on a PP working together. Last yr when the leafs PP collapsed on itself, it was always Phaneuf and Franson on the ice for shorthanded goals. Teams knew those two were slow so they jumped on loose pucks. When Gardiner and Rielly were on, no one was going for the loose pucks as much. if Gardiner works on his shot more, either adding power or working on keeping his head up while shooting, he will be a deadly PP specialist.

People tend to forget how young Gardiner is. He’s only 23. He’s only got like 1 yr more NHL experience than Reilly. Half of that experienced happened last yr during the lockout shortened yr too.

As an owner in my keeper league, I'd be happy with 2 - 2.75 per. Something tells me he'll get 3+. He's got a couple of 30 point NHL seasons under his belt already, which is not too shabby.

I'm worried they trade him and make room for Orpik in the summer. I've got nothing against Orpik in my 3rd pairing. The thing is he's 33 and will be looking for term and dollars. Simply can't do it.
I once traded Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Kovalchuk in return for Peter Budaj and Henrik Zetterberg… have lived in shame ever since.

For all the rumors that Carlyle doesn't like, he's actually done nothing to suggest that this is true.

He's actually made comments before about how he likes him and doesn't want him traded.

Plus the way he opened him up to playing time at the end of the season, it's unlikely he's pushing to move him. And he finished the season 2nd on the team in ice time. 2nd.

For all teh rumors of trading him, I doubt he'll be traded.
