Among the highlights - Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2 and Princess Leia all return. Lando Calrissian does not.
Among the new castmembers - the guy who played Gollum in LOTR, Andy Serkis
The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

I wonder why? It's not like he gets a ton of work outside of that. Plus he's done all kinds of Star Wars related stuff over the years including the recent Lego Movie...seems like a great opportunity to make some easy cash. Could it be he's the only one with the requisite integrity to say 'No' to Hollywood always trying to milk the past? If so, good for him.

i just did a star wars marathon a few days ago.
i'm most excited to see Max von Sydow, i hope he's a Sith but he can just as easily be an older Jedi.
also - will be interesting to see the old cast back. carrie fisher and mark hamill have not aged well...

I haven't been completely keeping up with this.....does it take place after Episode 6? Or is it one of those lame "alternate universe" things like the new Star Trek movies?
If it's linear and follows Ep 6, which I'm assuming is the case since Hamill, Fisher, and Ford are involved....then there won't be any Sith. Because Palpatine and Vader were the last ones, right?
