Before you get all angry and say “you just posted a piece last week concerning age and why we should all start to worry at 30,” let me explain. There are exceptions to virtually every rule (except the ‘Don’t draft Dany Heatley rule’, there are no exceptions there – not ever). Sharp is 32, and enjoying an incredible season – 11th in league scoring (66 points) and 3rd in shots on goal (262). Normally, at that age, I would get ready for a decline. However, he is under contract with Chicago through 2016-17 – a team that should feature Toews, Kane, Hossa, and Keith during that tenure (I don’t foresee them leaving). He’ll be part of a talented top six and receiving boatloads of power play time. I could envision three more years of 65 plus points and elite shot totals from number 10.
I once traded Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Kovalchuk in return for Peter Budaj and Henrik Zetterberg… have lived in shame ever since.
