Default A good problem to have: Krug

    Hey all,

I have an interesting situation on D in my 16 team H2H dynasty league on fantrax.

    My current D are:
    Kronwall
    Keith
    Letang
    Spurgeon
    Edler
    EJ

    We start 5 D.

I have Krug in my farm system right now and in our league you cannot send prospects down. Once you've called them up there's no going back.

Categories for skaters are G, A, Pt, +/-, PIM, SOG, PPP, SHP.

The rest of my team looks like this.

    We start 3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 1 UTIL, 5 D and 2 G.

C: Toews, Sedin, Anisimov, Oshie, Lecavalier, Kelly
    LW: Sedin, Zetterberg, Semin
RW: Pominville, Gaborik, Franzen, Hornqvist, Kassian
    G: Rinne, Anderson, Peters

How do I handle Krug and my D? My D is very strong but should I move a D to improve at a certain position? If so, which one?

    All input is appreciated!

    Thanks.

Unless you move one of your top four defensemen(Letang, Keith, Kronwall, Edler) I don't see you getting an upgrade at another position in a 2 for 1 type of deal. If you did trade one of the aforementioned players, I'd seek an upgrade at one of your center spots...beyond Toews/H.Sedin you don't have much there IMO.

I'd say he makes EJ and Spurgeon completely expendable but they also probably have very little trade value.

I'd probably just use one of those two guys and maybe an extra center to grab some more depth at LW or G.

You know best if your team desperately needs a major trade or not but at first glance I'd say you're fine just making a minor move like I described above.

    Good luck!

If its daily starts then you need a good third goalie. Perhaps see if the Lehner owner is interested in a D. Perhaps the Smith owner is getting antsy as well. He's had a had tough starts and maybe could be had for a package built around Keith. If you are a pavelec or Dubnyk believer they are options as well.

In weekly starts I'd target a C. Perhaps inquire into Stepan who's had a tough start and isnt too highly raned to start with. A package built around Edler might be enough to pry him away.

I'm in a keeper league with similar rules...and I've been holding off on bringing in anyone up...yet. However, I believe in your case you should be OK in bringing up Krug and dropping Spurgeon or EJ. Even if Julien decides to platoon or sit Krug occassionally, Krug's offensive prowess is much higher than either Spurgeon's or EJ's and will still outpoint them in the end. Krug's risk/reward is worth it, IMO, over either of those d-men.

Another option would be to look to upgrade your RW postion or G (particularly if your league requires a 3 min start for example) by trading one of your D assets. I would be worried about Rinne (Laidlaw made some nice points in today's ramblings on Rinne).

    Good luck!

How long can you keep Krug down? I'm thinking you can milk this out and hold on to more assets. Spurgeon and EJ are the guys to move if you want to or have to go that route.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

Once Krug hits 100 games I have to bring him up but I can leave him down until then if I decide to do that.

I will definitely make some inquiries on goalies and pivots. For those asking, it is a daily rosters league.

I also have Pulock, Gaudreau, Nelson, Rattie and Kristo as prospects.

You can take this into the summer if need be. He won't hit 100 till next year. I think you should try to find a good trade but take advantage of the prospect status rule and be patient. Find a good deal instead of a quick deal.

I'd try to make a good deal quick :P

Krug is a superior option than EJ and Spurgeon. I'd want to have him in my lineup sooner than later.

I just moved Erik Johnson, Ty Rattie and a third rounder in the prospect draft for Robin Lehner.

    Pretty happy with that deal.

I like it. Not a roster upgrade (at least not directly) but an "asset" upgrade.

I appreciate all the feedback guys.

For my last move, I acquired Jaden Schwartz for Edler and a late prospect pick.

Now I can call up Krug and I've improved both my forwards and goaltending.
