At a glance I'm really pleased with my team considering I had to auto draft. Knowing it would be a challenge being a deep and competitive league, I spent a fair amount of time pre-ranking. Here it is, and welcome feedback, both positive and constructive.

Categories: G, A, +/-, PPP, SOG, HIT, W, GAA, SV

The round and pick in parentheses.

    Quatermoss & The Sid

    C: Toews (3-33), Kesler (7-89), Lecavalier (10-136), Weiss (13-173) BN: Backlund (22-304)
    L: Benn (4-52), E. Kane (5-61), JVR (9-117), Boedker (18-248) BN: MacArthur (23-313)
    R: Gaborik (6-80), Hossa (8-108), PMB (19-257), Downie (20-276) BN: Johansen (25-341)
    D: Enstrom (11-145), Gonchar (12-164), McDonagh (14-192), Visnovsky (15-201), Giordano (16-220), Robidas (17-229) BN: Sbisa (24-332)
    G: Lundqvist (1-5), Anderson (2-24) BN: Lindback (21-285)

Some thoughts (will add when I think of more)

    - Decent balance throughout IMO, both with positioning and categories.
    - Pre-ranking set up to get two goalies off the bat, as with an auto draft I wouldn't get a bench until late, so needed two workhorses. Hopefully Anderson stays healthy. I can't believe I got Lindback in the 21st round. Bishop went about 10 rounds earlier.
    - Some injury risks so hopefully most can stay healthy all year. Especially at RW - all have had significant enough issues in the past.
    - D is a bit weaker but might get good value considering my first was chosen in round 11. A mix of offense and grit helps with the balance.

    My team: KINGS LANDING
(I've got King Joffrey & two LA Kings... and I like Game of Thrones.)

    Strategy:

For anybody that has done a "weekly set" league with many teams and is picking at END of ROUND 1, they know one truth: Goalie-Goalie.
At pick #13/#16, I'm basically drafting two goalies and then going with skaters for the remainder of the draft. The six skater cats are: G,A,+/-,PPP,SOG,HITS. For skaters, the plan is to load up on forwards, drafting all forwards in Rounds 3-12 with one ROCK defenseman. Late-draft big hitting defensemen to shore up a top three place in that category.

Round 1(13)/2(16): Jimmy Howard (DET) & Antti Niemi (SJ)
I had these guys ranked as #3 & #4 on my goalie list (behind Lundqvist/Rask and ahead of Fleury/ Crawford/ Quick/ Luongo/ Rinne/ Price). As the Red Wings are my 2nd favourite team, I'm ecstatic to have these two guys who should give me 35+ Wins each and project to a top three finish in all three goalie categories (W, SV, GAA). I really believe this is the #1 goalie tandem in this league.
PICK SCORE: 10/10 [Absolute best values at this spot.]

Round 3(41)/4(44): Anze Kopitar (LA) & Henrik Zetterberg (DET)
Kopitar is perhaps the most consistent (yearly stats) player in the NHL. Zetterberg finished 8th among skaters with these settings last year. Great start to my offensive stats.
PICK SCORE: 9/10 [I passed on Byfuglien/ Weber, Bobby Ryan, and Spezza here... who might finish higher]

Round 5(69)/6(72): Ryan Callahan & Zdeno Chara
I was praying to get one big hitting forward at this turn... and I started worrying when Brown, then Backes, went off the board a few picks before my turn. I'll take Callahan, who ranked 24th last year among skaters in this format. I debated between Chara/Doughty for my D-man. Doughty actually finished higher by rank last year, but only because Chara only managed 4 PPP. With Iginla/Eriksson, that BOS PP should be much better.
PICK SCORE: 9/10 [I passed on Doughty, Ladd, Sharp, and Voracek here.]

Round 7(97)/8(100): Pascal Dupuis & "King" Joffrey Lupul
Dupuis actually finished 16th in this format last year. I like Dupuis because I have always known he was a good all-around player since watching him live in Atlanta. "That guy is no throw-in", I told my buddies when PIT got him & Hossa for a stretch run. He'll also be a big + player w/Crosby. Lupul is a top 20 fantasy player by "per game" stats over the last two years. I'll play him while healthy and replace him if/when he goes down.
PICK SCORE: 9/10 [I passed on Pavelski, B.Richards, PAP, Kadri, Pominville]

***Unfortunately, my mens' league team had a hockey game and I raced out the door at 9:37pm Eastern time, arriving at the rink at 9:41pm for my "already-in-progress" game. We were down 0-1 when I hit the ice and sadly... we got beat... badly. Yeesh.***
    ***AUTO-DRAFTED PICKS (which I tried to pre-rank)***

Round 9(125)/10(128): Patrice Bergeron (BOS) & Justin Williams (LA)
Well... this was a fine surprise when I checked my roster. Bergeron may be in line for career numbers lining up with either Iginla or Eriksson and always has a dynamite +/-. For anybody that has owned Justin Williams, he is just a model of production and I have NO idea why he is ranked so low. People like sexy... but these guys were EASILY the best player available at this pick.
PICK SCORE: 10/10 [Passed on J.Staal, Hartnell, Elias, Shattenkirk, JJ, Soupy]

Round 11(153)/12(156): Chris Stewart (STL) & Tomas Plekanec (MON)
Stewart can be a bit of an enigma... but everybody knows the potential is there. Plekanec is another Justin Williams type balanced player that is consistently ranked too low. He finished as the #49 skater in this format last year, ahead of Marleau, Vanek, Shea Weber, Marchand, and Backes. The only regret I have is that I was doing pre-rankings right up to 8:30pm and I had just shifted Radim Vrbata above both of these guys, since Vrbata's full-rated year last year made him the #32 overall skater. The list didn't save and I lost out on Vrbata, barely, in round 13 to temek.
PICK SCORE: 7/10 [Passed on Vrbata!, O'Reilly, Brassard, Tlusty, Gonchar, Markov]

Round 13(181)/14(184): Francois Beauchemin (ANA) & David Perron (STL)
These were probably my first picks that I'm not crazy about. Frankly though, it was a good path (you see what I did there, oui?) to put FB on my pre-draft list. You see, once Yahoo! fills up your forward list, it defaults into other positions... which blows. I knew that if I didn't snag a D-man at some point, then I'd get a bunch of my HIT goons where I wanted good bench forwards. My pre-draft list had Vrbata, Seidenberg, Brassard, and Tlusty just before Beauchemin. With Souray out, I expect FB to be an absolute workhorse with some PPP as well. This was the first round where I felt that my co-GMs sniped some solid picks from me.
PICK SCORE: 7/10 [Well... really, these were good picks considering what had just been taken off my queue.]

Round 15(209)/16(212): Lee Stempniak (CGY) & Martin Hanzal (PHO)
Stempniak is actually a pretty good player ranking 98th overall among skaters in this format. With Hanzal, it's my first wasted pick, I believe. I'm pretty well set at center and (later) I found out that I am loaded with HITS at the defenseman slots... so I'm not sure where I'll ever use Hanzal. Ho hum... this would've been a different pick had it been live.
PICK SCORE: 5/10 [I would have preferred Clarkson or Cammalleri over Hanzal].

Round 17(237)/18(240): Chris Phillips (OTT) & Luke Schenn (PHI)
Phillips could be a nice pick as he is a veteran who might get a bit more PP time with Gonchar gone. Schenn is just a HITS-monster... THE hit monster on defense and I'd rather roster my HITS on defense rather than sign-up a Matt Martin or Clutterbuck.
PICK SCORE: 8/10 [Roman Josi & Ryane Clowe were two guys I would've considered]

Round 19(265)/20(268): Mark Fraser (TOR) & Mark Stuart (WPG)
This is just Yahoo auto-draft filling out my 5/6 slots on my defense. Sheesh.
Both of these guys I could've gotten two rounds later easily.
Had I been live, I would've been all over Nik Kulemin, Curtis Glencross, and especially Bryan Bickell (an INCREDIBLE value pick).
PICK SCORE: 1/10 [Just awful, awful picks.]

Round 21(293)/22(296): Chris Neil (OTT) & Justin Abdelkader (DET)
Neil was the 114th ranked skater is this format. Wings fans know that Abdelkader finished last season and may start this season as the winger playing with Datsyuk/Zetterberg... and AbD is a huge-hitter.
    PICK SCORE: 9/10.

Round 23(321)/24(324): Chris Kreider (NYR) & Matt Greene (LA)
Kreider may get a top line shot with B-Rich & Nash. Greene is a HITS monster.
Decent picks, but honestly... I think I'll end up swapping these guys out unless they click.
PICK SCORE: 6/10 [Nichu & Scheifele would've been better "risks" this late.]

    Round 25(349): Jay Harrison (CAR)
2nd last pick of the draft. He may get some big minutes with Pitkanen out. Could be a HIT monster and has gotten some PP opportunity in the past... but really, I'll swap him out sooner rather than later.
    PICK SCORE: n/a

OVERALL GRADE: A, forecasted finish: 2nd
Really please with this draft, especially my live 8 picks.
The only thing keeping me from giving this draft an A+ is the overload of HITS in mid-late draft and missing out on Radim Vrbata. But my players are all on good teams (takes care of +/-), I have lots of forward scoring (G,A,PPP,SOG) and enough HITS on defense. I think this will be an incredibly good team and I'm expecting a top five finish (90% conf IF no-major injuries) and possible top three finish (50% conf IF NMI). I'm always impressed with temek's draft & horrorfan's autodraft. They'll be good competition. I thought Chinny, Rimouski, and Renegade also drafted very good teams. Timbrrr's got a shot if Elliott emerges as #1.

Of my 25 drafted players, I really like about 19... a pretty good number.
I think I'll end up tossing Hanzal, Fraser, Stuart, Kreider, Greene, and Harrison back into the waiver wire pool at some point in the near future.

Fun group to draft with, looking forward to the fun of FAAB with a new group of guys.

    Hi guys,

I'm the owner of the Rimouski Oceanic. Nice review Pengwin about your team!

About my team, I like my Tavares-Moulson duo.

We'll see. I think it will be an interesting year.

    C Couture, Thornton, Zibanejad, Zajac
    LW Ryan, Hartnell, Burrows, Whitney
    RW Skinner, Vrbata, Hornqvist, Stafford
D Karlsson, Boyle, Ehrhoff, Hamonic, Gudas, Zidlicky
    G Rask, Ward
BN Halak, Kennedy, Malone, Petry, Zuccarello

    1. (6) Tuukka Rask (Bos - G)
I decided to with a goalie in the 1st and was hoping for one of Lundqvist/Rask and was very happy to get Rask here.

    2. (23) Erik Karlsson (Ott - D)
I was originally planning to draft Subban here, but won't complain getting Karlsson here at all as I had Karlsson ahead on Subban in my rankings. I was also quite suprised to see Giroux slide down to the 2nd round as I probably would have taken him 6th overall if both Lundqvist/Rask had been selected before my pick.

    3. (34) Cam Ward (Car - G)
I was originally planning to draft 2nd goalie in the 4th round, but decided to pick goalie a round earlier as the player I had hoped to draft here(Nash) went a lot earlier. Other players I was considering were Ryan, Couture, Pacioretty, Byfuglien and Weber. I was pretty sure at least one if not all 3 wingers would be available with my next pick, but dmen would probably not be. I didn't want to pick 2nd D this early so decision was to go with a winger. Since I could probably wait on them for 1 round more, I might as well go with a goalie now and not take the risk of having to take G I didn't like at all. Other goalies considered were Schneider, Pavelec and Halak. Decided to go with Ward as with weekly lineups and W,GAA,SVS as categories it's most important to play a lot and whether goalie is actually particularly good is very secondary concern.

    4. (51) Bobby Ryan (Ott - LW,RW)
Weber and Byfuglien go more or less as expected so I went with the the best winger left on the rankings in Ryan. Pacioretty and Couture are also more likely be available next round so I was hoping I could get one of them next round.

    5. (62) Logan Couture (SJ - C,LW)
I am bit surprised both Couture and Pacioretty are still available. I had Pacioretty ranked slightly higher, but decided to go with Couture due to multi-position eligibility giving little more flexibility in roster management.

    6. (79) Joe Thornton (SJ - C)
I was hoping Chara or Pacioretty would slide here, but both went so I decided to go with Thornton as I wanted to pick 1 C in first ten rounds. Also considered Kesler.

    7. (90) Jeff Skinner (Car - C,RW)
I was planning to pick Edler here, but decided to go with Skinner here as drop from Skinner to the next best RW available was significantly bigger than from Edler to the next D in Boyle. I was also hopeful I might get Edler with my next pick anyway.

    8. (107) Dan Boyle (SJ - D)
Edler was sniped just 2 picks before my turn so decided to pick the next D on the list in Boyle.

    9. (118) Jaroslav Halak (StL - G)
I wasn't originally planning to pick 3rd goalie this early, but I felt there's no way Halak should be available at this point of the draft even in a weekly league so decided to pick Halak up.

    10. (135) Scott Hartnell (Phi - LW)
My spreadsheet indicated I am extremely low on hits so I have to place some extra emphasis on hits from now on. I actually had Franzen, Elias and Vrbata ranked higher, but I really needed those extra hits so decided to go with Hartnell.

    11. (146) Alexandre Burrows (Van - LW,RW)
Franzen went so decided to go with Burrows as he is also fairly good in hits unlike most other options available.

    12. (163) Christian Ehrhoff (Buf - D)
I decided to go with Ehrhoff despite the need for hits as I thought I could manage hits category by picking 3 hits-heavy dmen later and forward or two as well.

    13. (174) Radim Vrbata (Pho - RW)
I decided to with with Vrbata despite lack of hits as he was clearly the best ranked RW available on my list and I couldn't pass on a bargain like that.

    14. (191) Ray Whitney (Dal - LW)
I really wanted C here, but Whitney was ranked so much higher in my rankings than the best available C in Steen so decided that moving Couture to C and picking Whitney would be a better option.

    15. (202) Travis Hamonic (NYI - D)
I was thinking about picking Steen here, but decided the need for hits was more important and picked Hamonic to shore up that situation.

    16. (219) Patric Hornqvist (Nsh - RW)
Hoped Faulk was still around, but no luck there. I really wanted to pick Gudas already as I really needed those hits and didn't want to miss on Gudas. I decided to wait one more round though as I had Hornqvist ranked quite far ahead of any other RW on my list so I just couldn't pass on him.

    17. (230) Radko Gudas (TB - D)
Got Gudas to shore up my hits and hits category started to look acceptable. I would still probably need two hits-heavy players more if I wanted to finish near the top in hits.

    18. (247) Mika Zibanejad (Ott - C)
Another hits related pick, although I had Zibanejad as the highest ranked C available anyway. So I just picked Zibanejad earlier than I was planning pre-draft.

    19. (258) Marek Zidlicky (NJ - D)
I hoped to get Atkinson here, but he went few picks earlier so had to change plans. Going with Zidlicky wasn't really helping my hits situation, but he was the highest ranked D available by quite a margin so decided to with him.

    20. (275) Travis Zajac (NJ - C)
Still needed center and winger to round out the starting lineup and decided to with Zajac. Not really that high on Zajac, but I think he's somewhat undervalued after 2 poor seasons and he'll get all the opportunity to show he's better than in the last seasons.

    21. (286) Drew Stafford (Buf - RW)
I had picked 3 goalies pretty early and hadn't paid much attention to goalies going since then, but decided to take a look who's available at this point to see whether there's any bargains to be had. I was very surprised that Lindback was still available as goalies like him that have even decent chance of being starting goalie should have gone far earlier. Everything looked good until I got auto-sniped by horrorfan right under my nose. It was actually quite hilarious to have late-round pick sniped by auto-drafting team. With Lindback gone I went with a filler winger in Stafford.

    22. (303) Tyler Kennedy (SJ - LW,RW)
    23. (314) Ryan Malone (TB - LW)
    24. (331) Jeff Petry (Edm - D)
    25. (342) Mats Zuccarello (NYR - LW)

Just some filler picks to cover possible injuries so I will be able to field a full lineup in the 1st week. These might easily be dropped by the 2nd week so nothing important. I was thinking on taking a sleeper pick in Trouba, but Chinny apparently had similar idea so decided to go with just filler picks with Trouba gone.

I am pretty happy with my team and think drafted well balanced team with good goaltending. Draft went fairly close as I had planned and got lot of the players I wanted especially in the later rounds. My fantasy teams tend to be strong on the wings and poor on center, but with the decision to move Couture to C from LW mid-draft my roster ended up quite balanced in all positions. I also drafted 2 workhorse goalies and even a good insurance in Halak so very happy with the goalie situation.

As for other teams I like Quatermoss & the Sid(good duo of starting goalies and good balanced skaters and well drafted especially considering this was auto-draft team), Timbrrrr(very good skaters, but having Elliott as 2nd goalie just probably isn't going to be good enough. Skaters are excellent though so could be a very strong team if 2nd starter is picked up somehow) and Serious Chinny (very good well balanced skaters and have lots of players I would have wanted to draft, but I think Nabokov drags the goaltending down to about average).

    Nice write-ups, Pengwin and temek.

Temek, glad my computer friend outsmarted you haha. Yeah, I can't believe Lindback was still there. I was fully expecting my third goalie to be a weak backup so that's a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the positive comments, I'm happy that my effort on the pre-rankings appeared to have paid off. We'll see if on paper turns into production.

Looking forward to the season - it should be a fun challenge.

I finally had some time to do it, so here a more complete board.

    Rimouski Oceanic

Round 1 (7): John Tavares (NYI). Looking for a goalie if Lundqvist or Rask was available but there were gone. BPA is Tavares.

Round 2 (22): Carey Price (MTL). Some goalies were gone, I don't want to wait to get the first on my team.

Round 3 (35): Zach Parise (MIN). Looking to add a 2nd goalie, five were gone since Price. But I decide to wait and get a good contributor (G, A, SOG) on LW

Round 4 (50): Matt Moulson (NYI). Chance to get the Tavares-Moulson duo. PPP and SOG.

Round 5 (63): Devan Dubnyk (EDM). I wanted my 2nd goalie as a lot of teams already had their two keepers.

Round 6 (78): Patrick Sharp (CHI). I wanted a RW here but he was the highest player available on my list. Like the C/LW eligibility.

Round 7 (91): Blake Wheeler (WIN). Here's my RW. Like the steady performance is last years. Multi-cats contributor.

Round 8 (106): Duncan Keith (CHI). Wanted my first D. Best available.

Round 9 (119): Slava Voynov (LA). Decide to take one D again. Great progression.

Round 10 (134): Beau Bennett (PIT). Looking for a RW. I like his chance in PIT.

Round 11 (147): Bryan Little (WIN). Duo with Wheeler and give me options with C/RW.

Round 12 (162): Victor Hedman (TB). Wanted Seabrook here. Just picked ahead of me. Take the following D on my list.

Round 13 (175): Brandon Saad (CHI). Looking for LW. Interesting chance in CHI.

Round 14 (190): Kyle Turris (OTT). Already had some C/LW or C/RW guys but I wanted to give me options on C.

Round 15 (203): Dougie Hamilton (BOS). 4th d-man picked. Could give me interesting stats.

Round 16 (218): Brendan Gallagher (MTL). Looking maybe for Drouin there but he was picked 4 spots after Hamilton. I wanted to complete my RW.

Round 17 (231): Matt Martin (NYI). Three reasons to pick him: hits, hits, hits. Will be the leader of the league.

Round 18 (246): Zack Kassian (VAN). He will miss some games but playing with Sedin twins make an interesting pick. Hits.

Round 19 (259): Brenden Dillon (DAL): Hits there for the third player in a row. Could give me some good numbers at D.

Round 20 (274): Jaden Schwartz (STL): I wanted a last C here. Interesting to see which combinaison of players he will played with in STL.

Round 21 (287): Jhonas Enroth (BUF): I wanted some depth at G. Will probably have few starts in the beginning then more when Miller could be on his way out.

Round 22 (302): Brendan Smith (DET). I wanted my last D. Like his chances this year of having good numbers.

Round 23 (315): Marcus Foligno (BUF). Hits there too. He could have some good numbers this year.

Round 24 (330): Joe Corvo (OTT). Waiting for Etem. Just picked ahead of me. Switching strategy to taking a depth defenceman, with PPP chances.

Round 25 (343): Filip Forsberg (NAS). I took him but will be on waiver soon.

I like my team. Maybe not a stat category leader but I will have contribution in all categories. Have a good season guys.
