So..... if Bryz gets bought out, is there a better option available? Sadly... I'm not convinced there is.
Luongo's contract means I dont want anything do to with him.
Miller might be a good option, but at what cost to acquire? The offer would have to be significant.
Mike Smith may not even be an upgrade and we would have to sign him. As a UFA, he would not be cheap at all. Maybe with the goalie market being a bit flush, prices might stay lower than normal, but it seems they always get PAID.
Nabokov? Might have a couple years left in the tank. Might be able to sign for a reasonable salary. Could help Mason out.

Outside of another trade that would also cost and arm and a leg, there aren't many (if any) options better than Bryz.

As we all already know, Bryz is officially getting bought out.

And... Steve Mason is now (for the time being) the #1 goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Could Reimer be an option in Philly?

Doubt it. They will probably sign a vet to a short deal. I'm thinking Nabokov or Bulin.

So either Rich Winter was never informed by Holmgren that Bryzgalov was NOT going to be bought out, or Holmgren is a giant piece of crap liar. I'd go with the latter since it's consistent with his past actions.

hard to predict what philly will do, always seem to do the unexpected,

Bryzgalov earned $16.5M in Years 1 and 2 of his contract and will earn $23M more via buyout: $39.5M total for two years of service.

Decent retirement plan for vets. Bryz gets paid $1.63M per year for the next 14 years (goes beyond the end of his career obviously) plus he can seek NHL or KHL jobs in the meantime.

capgeek has Philly's cap situation adjusted.
(mercy, that site is fast... love that site)

Finally, being a Flyer fan seems... stomachable... again.
With 13F (need 14), 9D (need 7), and 1G (need 2), it puts PHI $1.2m under the cap and Pronger on LTIR would free up another $4.9m to put them $6.1m under the cap.

Probably not enough money to go after a solid G & D... which one will they choose?
Their defense was just horrid this year. Scuderi & Doug Murray could both be decent additions. Hmm....

They should sign Tim T for a bucket of pucks and a broken stick for a year and sign a good goalie once the cap goes up again. Or sign him a looong contract for billions of $ to show that they have no ideer of what they are doing(insert drinking smiley)
