I can agree with this in general. While I'm not sure exactly on the count of NHL cities, due to some buildings not technically being in the city represented, Canada's higher tax rates aren't quite as bag a deal when you realize that some of the US cities with teams not only have decently high state tax rates, but also city taxes.

I do think the weather and location is sort of a problem. The offseason tends to not be as nice as many other parts of the world, and if yoou're lookign to live their year-round, that's a factor. Many players will make enough to not do that, but it's not a city that screams year round home.

Calgary has been a top 10 liveable city in the world for a couple years at least. Cant blame that.

Im thinking the guys who want to leave have seen enough of the organization, are running out of time to win a cup, and dont see it happening in CGY during the prime of their remaining years.

    Ownership.

I understand why people who’ve never lived in Calgary don’t see it as an attractive city. But it’s been a top 10 place to live for a decade as determined by multiple rankings using varied criteria. Calgary has one of the largest NHL alumni bases for a reason.

Great news for the #Flames and Oliver Kylington: After missing the past season-and-a-half dealing with his mental health, Kylington is expected to play for the AHL Wranglers tonight.

I really hope he can succeed. And if he somehow had anything to do with the new mental health program, he'll go down as a huge behind the scenes piece in NHL history.

Love to see it. I hope he's doing well.

Also, seeing some of the vitriol coming from some of the worst types of sports fans surrounding the Cutter Gauthier trade online this week, it is a delight searching 'Kylington' on nitter and seeing the support from Flames fans directed Oliver's way. At the end of the day, it's a job and it's a game played for entertainment.

Way to think of athletes as people Flames fans!

Awesome! Love to see a story like this. Hopefully he can make it back up to the big club and go on to do great things!
