I've never liked the Flames but I have always enjoyed Sutter's tough love style of coaching, until this clip after last night's game.

That's just sad. The kid just played his first NHL game and that's the best you can do? "What number was he?" He knows damn well what number he is. He doesn't need to blow smoke up the kids arse but is it hard not to show him a little love? Man, way to go Darryl.

I don't remember either of those happening but I don't normally follow the Flames post game scrums. I saw this this morning and didn't see the humor. I know he has a dry sense of humor but wow, cold.

If it's a running joke with Sutter and his players, then disregard my post. It just didn't come off that way.

For sure in Sutter’s shoes I would have handled it differently, even praised the kid, but it’s Sutter and he sings to his own tune.

Sutter is completely off the rails, and his handling of young players started out as comical and now is actively hurting the on-ice results for this year and the long term health of the organization. Unfortunately he was just given a 2 year contract extension and has the ear of the owner so the damage is just getting started.

I’m sure Matt Coronato, for example, is just salivating about giving up his Harvard degree to go play for that guy.

Totally agree the deployment of young players should be, and is, a concern if you’re a Flames booster. His handling of Pelletier case in point - and Coronado may indeed have his doubts based on that.

But totally disagree that this playacting stuff causes young players (or even vets like Gaudreau last year) any real concern.

Again i wouldn’t do that shtick in his shoes, but it’s no big deal.

He almost has the same shooting percentage as Kadri. And more SOG than Huberdeau.

Volume has his point shares higher. It's a con to the point share system when comparing goalies to players.
