Default Canada's Goalie at the Olympics?

    Dubnyk to the rescue...

You'd have to think Lou gets a good look, with his experience and what-not.. I think he still has 'it'..

I think it'll be a tough job because there group of players are going to be crazy good, so whoever is between will have to stay alert all game and may not be afforded the chance to get into a good grove..

Its such a wide open race right now, it will go to the hottest goalie at the time.

My gues the 3 goalies on Canada's roster will be:

    Ward
    Price
    Luongo
Derek Reese - Future Hall of Famer

I don't think 2 weeks of questionable goaltending will knock loose Price's grip on the starter's job.

At least I hope not - he's clearly the best starter of the current crop of Cdn goalies.

it wasn't just the playoffs, however. Price did not play very well in the last quarter of the regular season also

It was revealed that Price was playing through a groin injury, which eventually got so bad he couldn't play anymore obviously.

Price in 2014. If he stinks to start next year, then we can talk again.

    2010 Olympics: Lou posted 5W, 0L, 1 SO, and a 1.76 GAA..

I'd have to think that he at least gets a few games.. And whoever is the more dominant tender will play down the stretch..

Nah, it will be Price's job to lose. If he's stinking it up next season, then I'd worry, otherwise, he's da man. Smith, Luongo and Ward will get consideration for sure.

Watchingthegame completed my thought for me, Seadawg. It ought to be Price...though I'd think the hot hand at the time will play a larger role than it ordinarily should. All the usual suspects have looked unusually suspect this season.

One last thought - I give Bobby Lou props for his last Olympic performance but that was almost 4 years ago and many things have entered his psyche since. Back then, we was riding an ego high of championship quality teammates that carried into his home city's Olympics. None of these exist now.

I actually think it is Lu's job to lose, as it was his job last olympics. He did a great job too. Playing behind an amazing team helped, but he definitely contributed quite a bit. His play hasn't gotten any worse, and unless that changes I seem him starting, Price backing up and third place being someone you wouldn't expect as much, probably someone younger.

It is possible we could see Price take over part way through as Luongo did for Brodeur but Luongo still has some elite years left in him.

Good point.. but you have to think that their two go-to guys will be a combo of a vet/rising star.. a la Brodeur/Lou.. enter the Lou/Price era

But I think the round robin will ultimately be deciding this question for us..

FWIW, Dubnyk might be the "young guy" sitting in the stands, after representing at the World's this year.

I think that Lou and Price are locked in there barring injury or a terrible run to start 2013-14. The third spot is wide open and will largely be merit based.

Canada only really needs a pile of goalie equipment that can shift over once or twice per game. So, Jean-Sebastien Giguere it is.

Yeah I know.. I said it jokingly but I think he's an underated goalie who will be in the talks if he has a good showing next season..
