    Default Gryba hit on Eller

Geez...seeing the reaction from the crowd brings back memories of Chara on Pacio.

I've seen a few angles and I think the real damage was Eller landing basically on his face - the hit didn't seem that bad, it was the landing.

yeah agreed...I dunno if he maybe caught him with the stick or something but my impression on all the replays I've seen so far is that he just got his bell rung on a relatively clean open iced hit. Hate to see a guy bleed like that though, ouch!

Oh ya, I wasn't saying the hit was really dirty or anything. The point I meant to get across was the end result was chilling and it brought me back to the Pacioretty incident for a second when the cameras panned over the crowd.

Yeah that was a lot of blood, pretty ugly - that's what drew the 5 and a game, not the hit itself.

Doesn't look suspension worthy at all. End result is obviously terrible but the hit itself isn't a headshot.

but an odd call no? You don't often see a major for Interference called...but I guess if it was a minor penalty the correct call on ice would have been interference right? I dunno, I'm obviously happy we got a 5 min PP but it seems like the refs were swayed by the blood over the actual play.

Well Eller has just received the puck, it was really close but its not interference IMO - Gryba did make contact with Eller's head with his shoulder so it was a penalty for sure. The sight of the blood is what drew the major - initial reports are a broken nose, hopefully not a concussion but considering how woozy Eller looked, I would be surprised if it isn't.

I still haven't seen a very good angle or slow-mo so I'm waiting til tomorrow to see it better

It's pretty boarderline. While Gryba does make contact with Eller's front right shoulder area after he contacts Eller's head, I am not sure if it is enough to be considered a full body contact type of hit. So I think the principal point of contact is the head.

I don't see a lot of evidence that he targeted the head though either, definitely not intentionally but a case for recklessly could be made I guess. The positioning of Eller's head doesn't change significantly before contact and he takes advantage of a vulnerable player but I don't see any evidence of him picking it or rising up to hit him like you see in some cases (plus Gryba is pretty dang tall).

Should be interesting to see what conclusion the DoPS comes to.

The Rome hit on Horton was a 5 for interference if I recall. No more vicious than this one (no head contact even) but it got 4 games. Frankly he could get none or he could get a few, I have no idea.

It seems like the 5 for interference comes out when they aren't sure what other penalty to give so supplementary discipline is all over the map.

Hope Eller is okay, that was scary looking.
