    Default Studs & Duds - Tuesday 4/23

    Studs

    Buffalo Wings

Plus a center and defenseman. Thomas Vanek led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist was a +2, had 2 PIMs, 5 shots and 1 hit. Drew Stafford had 2 assists was a +1 with 3 shots and 1 hit. Cody Hodgson had 2 assists was a +1 with 4 shots and 1 block. Mark Pysyk rounded out the effort with 2 assists was a +2 and took 2 shots. The 4-2 win over Pittsburgh was too little too late for Buffalo's playoff hopes, however, the stats come at a nice time for some poolies out there.

    Washington Whips Winnipeg

Nicklas Backstrom, Jason Chimera, Alex Ovechkin, and Mathieu Perreault each had 1 goal and 1 assist and were each a +1 as Washington beat Winnipeg 5-3. Backstrom took 4 shots, blocked 1 shot, threw 2 hits and had 8 FOWs; Chimera took 2 shots and threw 4 hits; Ovechkin took 6 shots and threw 4 hits; and Perreault had 2 PIMs, took 3 shots, threw 1 hit and had 8 FOWs. John Erskine also had a strong multi cat night with 1 assist, a +1, 12 PIMs, 1 shot, 7 blocks, and 4 hits. Washington continues their strong play and with much of the east disintegrating recently one has to wonder if this might not be the year they make some noise in the playoffs. Washington also locked up the division with the win.

    Golden Arch

Andy McDonald and Chris Stewart each had 1 goal and 1 assist and Jordan Leopold had 2 assists as the Blues beat the Avalanche 3-1. McDonald also had 2 PIMs, took 3 shots and blocked 1 shot; while Leopold took 1 shot and Stewart took 2 shots. Brian Elliott also allowed only 1 goal on 18 shots for a .944 SV%. St. Louis locked up a playoff spot with the win.

    Smokin'

Sven Baertschi and Chris Butler each had 2 assists while Roman Cervenka had 2 goals in Calgary's 4-3 loss to Nashville. Butler took 1 shot was +2 had 1 block and threw 2 hits while Cervenka was +1 and took 3 shots.

    Duds

    Buyer's Remorse?

Douglas Murray was on the ice for 3 of Buffalo's 4 goals going -3 on the night. I am not sure that this is what the Penguins had in mind when they traded for Murray to help their defense.

What Does It Take To Get Some Rest

After giving up 2 goals in a 7 second span Anton Khudobin was pulled having allowed 3 goals on 17 shots for a .824 SV%. Unfortunately if you forgot to take Tuukka Rask out of your lineup he allowed 2 goals on 13 shots for a .846 SV%. This could be the difference maker in several fantasy championships this season.

He Couldn't S*#t Down The Panthers

Miikka Kiprusoff allowed 4 goals on 32 shots for a .875 SV% in a 4-3 loss to Nashville. After having one of his best seasons last year I don't think that this was the season Kiprusoff envisioned for his last one. With a 3.44 GAA and .882 SV% on the season and only 8 wins in 24 starts it has been a rough season for Kipper. Looks like beating the Ducks may end up being his last win http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/...ay-to-win.html

    Odds & Ends

    Busy B's

10 out of 40 players in the Nashville/Calgary game all had last names that begin with the letter B.

    (Un)Lucky 7

Depending how you look at it of course. The Florida Panthers led after two periods seven times this season including tonight. They are 6-0-1 and 2 of those wins came against the New York Rangers. I am not sure what was worse tonight the fact that the Rangers didn't want to clinch a playoff berth or that the Panthers didn't want to clinch the #2 pick in the draft tonight.
