Am I the only one who thinks that Volchenkov should be among the studs for that elbow to Brad "the rat" Marchand's head? Marchand deserves it every time it happens.
Studs
Giddy-up!
JS Giguere stopped 21 of 22 shots for the Avalanche's first road victory in 14 games. The five game losing skid comes on the heels of JS calling out his team earlier this week, saying some players were thinking too much about their post-season trip to Las Vegas. The Avalanche responded with an impressive performance against the Ducks.
It's time for Campbell's
Gregory Campbell notched his 3rd and 4th goals of the season early in the first period last night propelling the Bruins to a 5-4 win over the Devils and into the Northeast division lead. A total of four bruins had a multi-point game as they continue to roll.
Don't look now, but here comes Bobby Lu!
Roberto Luongo got his first start in over three weeks thanks to Cory Schneider’s illness and he didn’t disappoint. He stopped 40 of 41 shots to lead the red hot Canucks to their fourth consecutive victory. Kessler notched two assists in his second game back, and Henrik Sedin added two helpers as well. We won't get carried away and say he has a shot to steal back the #1 job, but he did play well.
Duds
Kipper-soft
Having lost his last six contests, things aren’t looking good for the 36 year-old Finn this season. Granted, it’s not all his fault as the Flames as a whole aren’t exactly playing outstanding hockey. However this is Mikka’s worst season as a flame by far since coming to Calgary from San Jose in 2003. He has never had a season in Calgary where he has lost more games than he has won – until this year. It will be the first time as a flame he has had a GAA over 3.00 and a save percentage under .900. Again, not all his fault, but it’s been a rough go for Kiprusoff.
Mr. Hiller gets yanked
Jonas Hiller was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 16 shots last night. Another case of the goaltender not needing to take all the blame, as the Ducks defense wasn’t particularly impressive either. Jamie McGinn did rifle home a beauty top-shelf goal and Duchene did have a pretty one timer from the right faceoff dot but the case could be made that Hiller usually would have stopped the other two.
How about an elbow to the head?
Anton will be facing a disciplinary hearing this morning after hitting Brad Marchand in the head with his elbow. Marchand left the game and did not return while Volchenkov was ejected and will likely face a suspension.
Odds & Ends
- Phil Kessel scored two goals for the second consecutive game in the Maple Leafs loss last night. He did have a number of great scoring opportunities though as he looks to be in the middle of one of his famous hot streaks.
- Radek Dvorak, who scored two goals in the Ducks victory Monday night was scratched from the lineup to make room for Getzlaf’s return. Maybe they could have used him last night.
- Peter Budaj siged a 2-year extension with the Habs. He has been a solid backup to Carey Price and seems happy in Montreal.
