    Default Studs & Duds - Sunday 4/07

    Studs

Alex the Great is baaaaaack! – Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is to living up to his nickname as he potted 2 more goals in the 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ovechkin who has a face only a mom can love has scored 16 goals in the last 14 games and is now tied with pretty boy Steven Stamkos with 25 goals to lead the NHL. Ovechkin finished the night with 8 shots on goal to increase his league leading total to 176. Ovechkin was named the NHL’s First Star of the week as he posted 7 goals and 9 points in only 4 games. If you didn’t buy low on Ovechkin you missed the boat.

No one is singing the Blues! – St. Louis Blues goaltender Brian Elliot capped off a great week with a shut-out in a 3-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Elliot stopped all 28 shots he faced and later said that he was just there for the Bud Lite. Elliot finished the week with a 3-0 record, a 1.45 GAA and a 0.952 save % while being named the NHL’s Second Star of the week. Look for Elliot to continue his strong play while Halak recovers from his injury.

A Star is born! – Dallas Star rookie forward Alex Chiasson was shining brightly Sunday night in the 5-4 shoot-out victory over the San Jose Sharks. Chiasson finished the night with 3 shots and 3 hits. Inserted into the line-up after the Stars traded away Morrow and Jagr, Chiasson has responded well as he now has 3 goals in only 3 games. Chiasson who is only 22 credits playing lots of NHL 2011 on his PS3 in fine tuning his skills.

    Duds

Ducks mightier than a King? – LA King goaltender Jonathon Bernier did not have his best game last night in the 4-3 shoot-out loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Bernier who has been great all year looked like wanted to get off work early so he could hit up a White Castle before it closed. Bernier allowed 3 goals on just 22 shots for a 0.864 save % through regulation and overtime. In the shoot-out Bernier was beaten like a rented mule 3 times as all 3 Duck shooters scored on him that he faced.

Capital Offense? – Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn was more than just a dud in last nights 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals, he was a douchebag! Late in the 3rd period with the Lightning net empty, Alex Ovechkin was skating by the Lightning bench with the puck and Killorn who was sitting on the bench put his stick on the ice in trying to knock the puck away from Ovechkin. The move was futile as Ovechkin kept control of the puck and went to score an empty net goal.
