    Default Studs & Duds - April 4, 2013

    From newfcollins and myself, enjoy

    Studs

Don’t Tampa with Bishop in the Bay of Blue Paint

Ben Bishop stopped all 45 shots for a very impressive shut-out in his Tampa debut. The rest of the squad played well in front of him by blocking another 21 shots. One unlucky bounce could have spoiled his shut-out but he still would have picked up the win because the Lightning was streaking all over the ice. Most notably; Stamkos, St.Loius, Carle and Pouliot who each had multi-point nights. Not to mention the other 6 players who also finished on the plus side.

    Carle - 2 assists, +3, 3 sog, 2 blocked shots and a hit.
    Pouliot - 1 goal, 1 assist, +3 and 4 sog in just over 14 minutes of ice-time.
    St.Louis - 1 goal, 2 assists, +3, 3 sog and 4 blocked shots
    Stamkos - 2 assists, +3, 4 sog and .529 face-off percentage.

There’s Lightning in a bottle and for now it goes by the name of Ben Bishop.

The Habs are merely along for the Ryde-r

Michael Ryder is exactly at a point-per-game since coming to Montreal and has 31 points in 36 games. Not only that but he is clearly one of the more consistent skaters in that he has not gone more than 2 games without a point. His season best 63 points in his rookie year was with Montreal and it would appear that, had we played a full season, he would have beaten it.

Ryder - 2 goals, 1 assist, +1, a power play goal on only 2 shots on goal.
    Subban - 2 assists, +2, 2 sog and 2 blocked shots.

A Stone-s throw away from a full stat sheet

Michael Stone is a 3rd rounder that is starting to find his game a little more each time he suits up. This 6’3” defenseman has only played 43 games at the NHL level so why is he a stud this week you ask? Last night he contributed in just about every fantasy category that he could have.

    Stone- 1 goal, 1 assist, +2, 2 PIM, 2 sog, 4 blocked shots and a hit.

Sometimes I wonder how awesome it would be if a defenseman took face-offs, even if just to mess with other coaches.

    Taking in the Sedinery

If it’s not Hank, it’s Dank and if it’s not Dank, it’s probably someone Hank or Dank gave the puck to. This week it’s Henrik Sedin that is the stud. Yes, I know that is to be expected but after having a 7 game point streak come to an end at the beginning of March he hasn’t really done much until last night.

    Sedin - 1 goal, 1 assist, +1, 2 sog, 1 blocked shot, a hit and an impressive 15 face-off wins.

    Afterthoughts

Tukka “Who’s Tim Thomas” Rask - A 40 save shut-out which only adds to his already impressive stats of 0.927 SV% and 1.94 GAA

Robin “I’m a point per game player in LA” Regehr - 1 assist, +2, 1 sog, 2 blocked shots and 6 hits.

Roman “Bring out the lions” Polak - Nothing much to report other than his 17 PIM which probably helped poolies in deeper leagues only.

Cory “My contract doesn’t suck” Schneider - 23 saves for the shut-out, he hasn’t let in a goal since halfway through the second period against the Sharks. Here’s hoping he can keep that going.

    Duds

    Play it Seguin

Tyler Seguin: It's not that easy replacing Patrice Bergeron. Last night, he may have been a plus one, but he had no points, and was a horrible three-for-12 in the faceoff dot. In total, he’s only got one point in the last four games.

    Backing out early

Nicklas Backstrom: Heading into last night's game, Backstrom had allowed four goals in each of the last two games. He made sure that wasn't going to happen again, though, as he got pulled after letting in the first two shots he faced in three minutes of play. His stat line was a save percentage of zero, and a goal against of 38.50. He's now lost three in a row.

    No Reim-er, no reason

James Reimer: Reimer didn't make Leafs fans comfortable in the lack of a trade deadline day deal for a goalie. He gave up four goals on 30 shots, the eighth time this season he’s given up four goals in a game.

    Olli Olli oxen free

Olli Jokinen: Hey, did you know he’s still playing in the league? You wouldn’t know it if you watched the game last night, unless he was losing faceoffs, as he's pretty invisible out there. A bunch of zeroes, and a five-for-12 faceoff record. On the bright side, he had a zero plus-minus, so he remains tied for worst in the league with that mark instead of being the sole loser.

    Honourable mentions:

Evander Kane: In his last five games, he has one assist, minus-five and 23 penalty minutes.

Eric Staal: No points. a -2, and .412 faceoff winning percentage doesn't help his team much, especially when they're trying to gain on the Jets.

Carlo Colaiacovo: Ugh. A -3 last night. He's only played four games this year, but has been a minus in three of them.

Mikko Koivu: Koivu is zero-for-three in games in April, with no points, and a -1 in that span.

Nice write-up, thanks. Just wish you would have also put the face-off wizard RHN under your boot and squashed him too.
