It's a rom-com I watched with the wife this weekend. Not going to lie, it had a couple quick funnies but all in all, not a great movie. Typical rom -com storyline. The wife enjoyed it. In her words, it was "cute".

Checked out a couple of movies I had missed off the old checklist recently:
Crimson Tide - 7/10 - 90's cold war style submarine thriller starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman. It's not Hunt for Red October but it's damned good. Could go up or down in rating upon rewatch but a very entertaining thriller on first watch. Glad I finally gave this one a look.
The Insider - 7/10 - Another 90's flick, based on the true story of 60 Minutes getting an interview with a Big Tabaco insider/whistleblower. Stars Al Pacino and Russell Crowe. It's an interesting throwback to a time before the Internet where TV was everything and smoking was everywhere. An interesting time capsule. It's also about some big time acting performances by the stars and supporting actors.
Anyone see the new Captain America?
Its the only movie out in theatres that even remotely interests me but reviews are mixed and I can’t wrap my head around a black dude playing Captain America.

I haven't watched the new Captain America, but there's an arch in the comics where CA is black and the comics were from the late 90s. It's not a new concept in all honesty, it's just not THE concept.
From what I've heard it's a movie you watch not for the story. Which isn't a bad thing. But it's a hard sell to the public when the theatre is so expensive. I have a gift card to cineplex that I would like to use but there's a ton of summer movies I rather just wait to see than a mediocre non-top Marvel movie.

Interesting, I never read the comics, so I never knew that. I just assumed this was another DEI initiative gone wrong lol.
Yeah... I'm gonna pass on this. I yearning to go to the theatre and spend money, but literally nothing out there interests me.
Hollywood needs to get their shit together or we'll be stuck with this glut of mediocre streaming movies...
A lot of the Marvel stuff has happened in the comics prior to "woke" being a political topic in North America. It's just stuff the company recognized they could get a different demographic interested in their products by including them in the actual comics. Like any non-white superhero by Marvel isn't about a woke culture, or DEI initiative to what we see as in 2025, it's the company trying to create a character that demographic would identify with and buy the comic. And most of the time it came at a time when that demographic ended up having disposable income to a point.
Isaiah Bradley in the comics first appeared in 2003 (the casted away black man who took the super-soldier serum). Then in 1998 there was a comic book called Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty which was the first time Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie's character) took the costume and became Captain America.
Then the storyline of The Falcon becoming Captain America was first introduced in 2014. Comics get confusing lol.

I watched Captain America because I was bored out of my mind and the weather outside was shit.
It was as mediocre as I expected. Do not see it.
Watched the Bob Dylan biopic last night, A Complete Unknown.
I won't say I am the biggest Dylan fan but I certainly can appreciate his legacy. I do love me a good biopic, especially if the person is still alive because you have to assume they have some sort of involvement for accuracy purposes. It was a very good movie but I wish it covered more of his life instead of just the earlier parts.
If you have any interest in Bob Dylan or like me and just like a good biopic, I recommend this movie.

I watched the Ricky Stanicky movie with Zac Efron and John Cena. It was actually pretty funny. Like easy watch funny, not intellectually funny. 7/10. Worth the watch, but not a "run to watch"
