Default Just finished first ever draft

Here's my team. I'm not a huge football fan, but I love fantasy so I entered a league.

8-team H2H, no keepers, I think fairly standard scoring settings.

I made my first 8 picks, then my internet cut out and autodrafted the rest.

    Offense

QB: Eli Manning (QB), Ben Roethlisberger (QB)

WR: Mike Wallace (WR), Demaryius Thomas (WR), Dwayne Bowe (WR)

RB: Arian Foster (RB), DeMarco Murray (RB)

TE: Rob Gronkowski (TE), Jimmy Graham (TE)

BN: Roy Helu (RB), Antonio Brown (WR), Andy Dalton (QB), Dallas Clark (TE)

    Kickers

    K: Stephen Gostkowski (K)

    BN: Dan Carpenter (K)

    Defense/Special Teams

    DEF: Seattle (DEF)

    BN: New England (DEF)

    -------------

Right now I have waiver claims in for Reggie Wayne and Darrius Heyward-Bey, dropping Dan Carpenter and Dallas Clark.

Anything else I should look to upgrade? Should I drop New England (DEF) as well for another bench player?

    thanks

You may be surprised that Big Ben winds up as your strater.

...and unless you start two TEs, trade one for an upgrade at WR.

    Is it a PPR league?

You start six bench players each week?

no. 6 players on my roster ride the bench each week.

so i don't get their points.

eg. say i have 3 good qb's. i can only start 2, so i'd pick 2 based on their matchups, and the 3rd will ride the pine.

Got Heyward-Bey but someone else grabbed Wayne.

One of the gm's dropped Decker for Peyton Hillis, so now I've got a waiver claim in for decker.

    Default Yeah

Decker's a sweet pickup if you can get him, glad you put that waiver in.

Basically an 8 team league is an all-star roster, so you want to cut the marginals and have players who can pop stud value. You can pick up usable players every single week from waivers/FA and play matchups with some positions very very easily. Kind of a fun way to play a league, honestly - but you have to only care about your studs.

So, with your squad you have studs at RB1, RB2, TE1, TE2 and some very good usable WR to mix in week-to-week.

Yes, you should only carry 1 defense and 1 kicker - the waivers will be full of players so you should be speculating on potential breakouts by guys like Royster, Tate, etc.

I think your biggest weakness is that QB2 slot where you're shuffling Roethlisberger and Dalton week-to-week. Obviously getting into one of the top stud QB's is going to be tough, but there are better guys to target for QB2 than what you have. Check the prices on Rivers, Cutler and Palmer - you may find an owner who will trade you Cutler and an upgrade for Roethelisberger and I think Cutler's upside is 5-10% higher than Bens for 2012. All in all you spent wisely, just stop carrying the useless stuff like extra D, K, 3rd TE. Oh, and try to trade Helu if anyone values him - I truly don't see him being the starter this year in Washington. I think Royster is going to carry the load there and make Helu expendable quickly. Try to trade him for fair value asap.

    thanks for the post.

how about roethlisberger/helu/antonio brown for cutler/brandon marshall? the guy has ryan mathews so he should be interested in helu's help for the interim.

That's probably the right kind of trade - though the longer Wallace holds out the more Brown's value goes up to be sure. Still modest upgrade at QB and modest upgrade at WR for Helu? I'm all over that kind of trade.

Keep in mind Helu COULD become a dominant back, I'm just telling you I doubt it

DET defense was just dropped too.

Put in a waiver for them...dropping Pats d.

This leaves me with both seahawks and lions def, but I don't mind having 2 to start the season.

Obviously Arian Foster was your first pick, but I am having trouble determining who your 2nd pick was for your team?? Nobody really stands out, especially in a 8 team league.. I guess Gronk could have been..

How did the first few rounds go?? Can you list the first few rounds in here for us??

Ya I think I jumped the gun on the TE's and took Gronk and Graham 16/17. Probably was a little early to do that, but I felt like it.

    Foster
    Rice
    McCoy
    Rodgers
    Mathews
    Brady
    Jones-Drew
    Megatron

    Chris Johnson
    Brees
    Jennings
    Fitzgerald
    Newton
    T. Richardson
    Stafford
    Gronk

    Graham
    Nelson
    White
    Peterson
    McFadden
    Jackson
    Lynch
    Forte

Half the teams were on autodraft, half the managers were there.
