Full article:With Backstrom on the sideline recovering from offseason hip surgery, Ovechkin started the season playing with Oshie and fellow Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov. That trio has been effective for the Caps this season, but tonight in Detroit, Caps coach Barry Trotz will reunite Backstrom and Ovechkin for the first time at the start of a game this season. Oshie will skate the right side of that unit, and it gives the Caps a different look than the one they showed Detroit last week when they were in town.

I need Oshie to get gelling with these two. 9 points just isn't cutting it.

Hey all - any word on whether Carlson is going to play tonight? Yahoo! has him as "questionable" and I can't seem to find anything more specific than that. Any insight would be great, thanks in advance.

Damn, just finished watching Kuznetsov play a fantastic game against Buffalo. Two sweet assists and six SOG. He looked so confident out there with Ovechkin...and now with Backstrom out, maybe he goes on a little run here?

Anyone have any thoughts on how the Capitals power play might shake out if Carlson isn't in Washington next year?
Niskanen & Orlov seem like the main candidates, but maybe Bowey or Djoos?
Want a Signature? Go to Settings, and you'll find Edit Signature down the list on the left.
It looks like they see Djoos more as an offensive option - at least he received some PP time when Niskanen was out. Bowey didn't get any PP time even then, so that probably wouldn't change if Carlson leaves. But I think they manage to keep Carlson in Washington.
Orpik buyout cap hit if they do it next summer:
$2.5M in 2018-2019
$1.5M in 2019-2010
That's much better than $5.5M in 2018-2019 and opens up some cap space for Carlson... Just saying...![]()
Question of the day/season.... why does Washington suck so badly... can Holtby get a win anytime in February/March?
