Neuvirth in goal tonight.
True, but do you realistically see Ovechkin being traded?
One could also say that Rome was built by hard workers, would you also say that Ovechkin isn't a hard worker? I think it was a mistake to give him the C but I disagree that the Caps can't have success unless Ovechkin is traded.
Give Carlson the C and watch the transformation back to greatness![]()

Neuvirth in goal tonight.
As Adam Oates is trying to figure out how to run the Capitals, he has begun changing lines, allow the 3rd and 4th line more ice time, and moving positions around.
Mathieu Perreault played for 12:15 last night against the Canadiens versus 3:52 and 4:58 in the previous two games. Marcus Johansson has gone from 17:15 minutes in the season opener to only playing 11:58. Joey Crabb played his second game of the season and saw his ice time doubled. Crabb scored the Capitals only goal of the night saving them from a home ice shut out.
Ovechkin had his second collision since training camp opened, skating into fellow line mate Woltek Wolski. The first collision was during a scrimmage in training camp when he collided with Marcus Johansson. Ovechkin has been moved from left wing to right wing by Adam Oates this season, but was moved back to left wing during the third period last night.
The shuffling of lines and shift in ice time last night appeared to be working last night in the first period, but in their normal fashion the Capitals are not able to string together consecutive periods of play.
Tonight's match-up with the undefeated New Jersey Devils will be a hard battle for the Capitals. The undefeated New Jersey Devils have only played two games this season so they will be well rested when the puck drops this evening against the Capitals who are playing their third game in four nights. Devils goalie Martin Brodeur currently leads the league in both GAA (0.500) and SV% (.977) including a shut out against the Flyers.
Chatter from New Jersey today is indicating Michal Neuvirth will be starting for the Capitals tonight. Neuvirth has a history of playing very well against the Devils with an impressive 1.96 GAA and .930 SV%. Neuvirth is 4-1-2 against the Devils.
The Capitals has a optional skate this morning attended by most of the defense except Mike Green, and only Jay Beagle and Mathieu Perreault were the only forwards on the ice.
It is hard to say what tonight's lines will look like and if Ovechkin will be playing left or right wing. I would anticipate Oates continuing to reward the players that are making an impact, and reducing the ice time of those who are not.

The Washington Capitals take the ice today as the only team in the NHL without a win this season. The Capitals did manage to earn a point Friday night against the Devils thanks to a Mike Green goal at the end of the third period. The goals was Green's first of the season and also his first point. Myself and fans alike were pumped up after the Green goal going onto overtime, but Green was called for interference just over a minute into overtime taking the Capitals off of the offensive. Ilya Kovalchuk was able to score a game ending goal with less than a minute left in the overtime period.
The Capitals looked better against the Devils than they had in the prior three games. This is most likely due to the shake up in the offensive lines. Ovechkin and Backstrom have been placed on separate lines, and Ovechkin has been moved back to his normal left wing position. Look for the same lines tonight against the Sabres.
Despite letting three pucks past him, Michal Neuvirth played very well against the Devils ending the night with 3 goals against and a .914 save percentage. Neuvirth will be starting for the Capitals again tonight. Neuvirth has the better statistics against Buffalo with a 3.37 GAA and .877 SV%. Braden Holtby has a 5.03 GAA and .863 SV% again Buffalo. Both goalies have faced Buffalo two times.
The Capitals are power play and penalty killing this season has been a major problem for the club. The Caps 15% power play (22nd in the NHL) and 66.7% penalty killing (28th in the NHL) clearly identifies a key problem with their struggle for a victory. Buffalo's power play is currently ranked 15th and their penalty killing is ranked 13th.
Watch out for Crabber! Joey Crab has scored more points against the Sabres than any other team in the league. He has scored nine points (3G,6A) in ten games. Crabb will be on the top line tonight with Ovechkin and Beagle. Jason Chimera has scored eleven points (2G,9A) against the Sabres in thirteen games. Chimera will be on the third line along with Ribeiro and Ward. Riberio (4 points) and Ward (3points) lead the Capitals in points and are two of the three Capitals with power play points this season. Troy Brouwer has the only other power play point.
The Capitals did not have a morning skate today. I asked Senior Writer for the Capitals, Mike Vogel about starting lines via twitter and he is anticipating the same lines tonight that the Caps has against New Jersey on Friday night.
Ovie - Beagle - Crabb
Wolski - Backstrom - Brouwer
Chimera - Riberio - Ward

Hey Mike,
Let's not forget to the Caps faithful know that Ovie had a game winning power play goal on Sunday
That's right, Ovie scored on the power play. And it was about 25 games quicker than he did last season![]()

Sorry, for the lack of information today. I am sitting at the airport and have had very limited time to prepare a report for today.
The Caps won their first game of the season on Sunday night with a final score of 3-2 over Buffalo. This proved to be a game of many firsts. John Erskine scored his first goal since April 5, 2011. While Erksine scoring a goal may not have much fantasy relevance, his goal is more important than it may have seemed. The Caps are undefeated with 9-0 record in games where Erskine scores a goal. Sunday night also marked the first goal of Alex Ovechkin for the season.
Michal Neuvirth will get the start tonight against Ottawa. Neuvrith is 4-0 against Ottawa. Last season Neuvirth only faced the Sens once time posted a 1.40 GAA.
Caps lines are expected to remain the same. No word on who the scratches will be. I would expect Marcus Johansson to get into the line up again either tonight or in the next game.

God those lines are butt ugly.
Goalies: If I'm pickin em you best be sittin em!
Didn't expect such mixing of checkers/scorers from a former prolific point getter.
How long can he keep scratching Johansson? I thought he proved himself to be a quality NHL'er last season. They better get him back in soon and hope it lights a fire under his butt rather than making him not want to play for Oates.

3 round draft and 1 waiver per team per year
This puzzles me. If the key here is to get Ovie going, it ain't going to be by pairing him with Beagle and Crabb. Watched the game against the Sabres over the weekend and Ovie was doing squat until Oates shook up the lines between periods and put Ovie back with Backstrom. If nothing else, you might as well go down swinging!
