Division clinched by presidents trophy still in play! home ice has mattered this season, home ice advantage through the playoffs would be highly advantageous

Especially if they end up vs the Leafs. Or any other North winner.

at the beginning of the season i didnt overreact but since it seems to be happening for g1 of the playoffs and ive seen it fail during the season so i will.

brindamour would be an idiot to split up the SAT line. he currently has Svechnikov playing with JStaal again at practice today. stupid stupid stupid!

Obviously from a fantasy standpoint this is sooooo annoying, but from a development standpoint for Svech, I ALSO don't get it. What is Brindamour think that he is seeing...?

he wants to 'balance' the lines or some other coaching bs. i personally believe it doesnt work as you dont get the most out of your top players. chemistry is a thing and can win you games that break a game open and/or you didnt deserve to win.

and yes definitely frustrating to own svechnikov. the guy has 40 goal, 90 point, 2 hits per game, 3 sogs per game potential and is being stifled.

The most infuriating thing is that yes sometimes you need to balance your lines but it's not like a line of Nino, Staal and Fast are a bunch of scrubs. So the loss of that top line chemistry seems so unnecessary

Hurricanes allowing Hamilton to speak to other teams before FA in regards to a new contract. This opens the door for Carolina to do a sign and trade (8yrs vs 7yrs), and Hamilton to see what other teams will offer vs what Carolina has already offered him.

This is great for the Hurricanes if they can pull off a sign and trade. And how much is it worth to get that 8th year to a team?

Curious how it would operate with the expansion.

Maybe Carolina signs, protects then moves Hamilton to get a higher return?

I think Carolina's D that would be exposed is Hamilton (UFA), Slavin, Skjei, Gardiner, Pesce, Bean (RFA), Haakanpa (UFA). So if they have Hamilton I'd say the ranking of D-keep is:
    Hamilton, Slavin, Pesce, Bean, Skjei?

They could go the 4/4 route, protect Hamilton, Slavin, Pesce, Bean/Skjei as their D. Exposing Nino, Trocheck, Gardiner, Skjei/Bean. Then move Hamilton?

It's a route they can go to maximize the return.

Most likely the team acquiring Hamilton will have traded before expansion and will have an extension in place to be protected by his new team.

Carolina has their own protection issues to to deal with so doing anything fancy with Hamilton for like a 3rd rounder isnt worth it which is what ufa signing rights deals go for in the past. Seattle has their own window to negotiate with pending UFAs also before expansion, the new team wouldnt risk Seattle coming in and giving him a crazy contract with their current $81.5m cap space still available.

    Brind'Amour gets a 3 year deal

I thought someone was talking about how this would be a crucial signing for Carolina as he's a big part of Hurricane culture (keyed to success). I couldn't find the post - maybe that was said on the spittin chiclets podcast - brain is mush right now.

Either way this great for Carolina as he's done a tremendous job for the organization already. imo.

Congrats to Brind’Amour on winning the Jack Adams award. Well deserved.

Big re-signing. Hopefully the team can afford things moving forward and it doesn't hamper other purchases.

Well deserved award too. Jack Adams typically goes to the team that "overperforms" and not to the actual best coach. But this one feels right and not underserved.

i just hope he keeps the SAT line intact all season. Svechnikov and Teuvo (somewhat) were frustrating owns this season.
