Default [Cage Match Tournament] #1 Ovechkin vs. #2 Crosby

Oh boy, oh boy! Now it's the Elite Eight folks. That means we are throwing down like a dirty diaper, nothing but ones and twos. Remember, this poll is for a points only keeper league. Make sure you read the article on the front page to see the full bracket and get caught up on the action but for now cast your votes and comment away, we want to hear what you have to say!

Here are links to the other polls this round:

    #1 Malkin vs. #2 Giroux
    #1 H. Sedin vs. #2 D. Sedin
    #1 Stamkos vs. #2 Tavares

Posting this the day after Crosby gets 4 assists probably won't help the poll haha, but I picked (gasp) Ovechkin.

If I had the choice between either player as to who would get more points over the rest of their career, the risk is just too high with Sid for me.

The timing of this poll coinciding with Crosby's return is very unfortunate given the short term memories of fantasy hockey GMs.

Ovie should win this hands down.

Um how so? He is simply a better player than Ovechkin. By a fair margin.

Agreed. But in a keeper format I think that Ovechkin is a much safer bet. Sid has missed 111 games over the past two seasons...one more hit and who knows what could happen.

Ovi. We're not talking who's better hockey player, we're talking who's a better player for fantasy hockey, right? Ovi delivers more categories. When I draft players in the early rounds, I first of all look if they will deliver in secondary stats (SOG, hits) as well as the primary, and Ovi does just that. As soon as Caps get healthy and get rid of the mess they're in right now, his +/- will skyrocket, too. Also, he's one of the hottest player at the moment, delivering in the way he can and should be. Just in time for both Caps and his fantasy owners.

So tough. I own Ovy. I don't think I'd trade him today for Crosby.
Of course, if Crosby plays like Crosby for half a season, I might think the opposite.
Or, if Ovy plays like 2011-12 Ovy for half a season, I might also think the opposite.

I'll vote Ovy, but reluctantly. Safety first in a keeper I suppose.

I also agree with this. People will vote Crosby because he is on fire since his return and people are forgetting that he is one more hit away from retirement.

I love Crosby, but in ANY league I am picking Ovechkin over Crosby if I had to choose between the two.

I know I am supposed to be impartial but I can’t shake the accusation that people voting for Crosby are doing so because of what he has done in recent games. While there are no doubt people who are doing this I for one had Crosby as my first overall player back when the selection committee was deciding things and Crosby was still comatose. He is the best player on the planet when healthy and I think it is worth the risk because he can put up points at a pace no one else can touch. Other players can be just as dominant for stretches but the difference is when Crosby cools off he still scores at a point per game pace.
