    Default Elliott

...making his second start, back-to-back tonight. Understandably Elliot isn't stealing the starter's job from Halak, but is this move meant to wake Halak up a bit? Or does anyone think they could be giving him some more starts down the line?

I've always been a Elliott-supporter and still am. He's an underrated goalie. He's still young and developing as a goalie. Consistency has been the biggest issue for him but that's something he can hopefully work as he matures as a goalie.

I would definitely keep an eye on the Blues goalie situation, and if I'm Halak owner I'd go out and get Elliott. Not saying he's going to steal #1 spot from Halak but it might happen, especially if Halak can't get his shit together.

Just noticed an interesting stat. Halak has faced an average of 19.4 shots in his 5 starts while Elliot has faced an average of 32.5 shots in his 2 starts.
Not sure why this is the case but I would imagine its easier to get into a rhythm when facing more shots.

I have owned him in the past and I just only learned he is 26 years old. That is something to keep in mind as an owner or potential owner. Elliott can stand on his head and post a SO followed by allowing 8 goals against. But this is because of his age continuing development. He has talent. Defintiely one to keep and eye on....Halak is struggling, Elliott is not, if I am the coaching staff I am rolling with Elliott for awhile.

If I was the Halak owner in my league, I'd grab him. I'm hearing what you guys are saying: keep an eye on him. Good advice, I'd absolutely love to grab Elliot and trade him to the Halak owner (the guy's kind of a jerk), so perhaps thats where my interest is coming from. If he gets some more starts, I may grab him.

I think he's a great pick up if you already have Halak. In fact, I'm wondering why the Halak owner in my league isn't on this right now.

Even as a non-Halak owner, I'm thinking of putting him on my team. Just on a very tough drop situation, so I'll wait it out. If Backes hits the IR I could consider grabbing him short term.

Bah, I'm so mad at Halak. He needs to get in his groove...

Drop Ennis for Elliot, then trade Anderson for a pick?

Or. Trust in Halak and pick up the Bulin wall?

I think this will be good for Halak. It will make him wake and see his job being stolen from him. Good copetion is always a good thing.

Totally agree. Although has a Halak owner I hope Halak wins back the starter gig sooner than later !!

No, mainly because it's far too early to know. It's October 24th, let's have a little patience. But I agree that Elliott is a good pickup for Halak owners (as I have done) for the time being.

I'm not. I don't think others should be either but that's just one man's opinion.

Anyways, for whatever its worth it seems likely that Payne is rolling with Elliott again on Wednesday against the Canucks as per Andy Strickland.

Must be a difficult time as a coach. His ass is on the line too, and if the team doesn't win then out he goes. More likely than not, I think he's going to ride Elliott until he has a poor start, then he'll give Halak the opportunity to prove again that he is their #1.

I can't help but wonder though, in the bigger scheme of things whether or not Payne is making a mistake running with Elliott and his hot streak right now. Then again, I wonder if Payne is coaching under the pretenses that he may not live to see the bigger picture if this team doesn't win which they seem to do when Elliott is in net.

    Sorry, rambled.

For the record, I don't think that Halak has lost it either, just some of the language surrounding him makes it sound like a pre-ordained event. Just wanted to clarify.

Anyways, my two cents on Halak/Elliot for what its worth....

Yes, Wednesday will be an interesting game. The Canucks are in an interesting position, with a new player (presumably) moving into the Top 6 and with that (presumably) re-jigging PP1 or PP2 to accommodate him (most likely PP2). We'll see how it works out, but for all accounts it shouldn't be too rough, but it may take some time for them to click. Who knows. The Canucks also have an offence that can punish any goalie on any given night, so it will be interesting to see how Elliot plays. If he's rocked, it provides an excuse for Payne to put Halak back in while Elliot can sit, if he does ok, it gives him maybe a game or two more to play Elliot while letting Halak stew about it and get hungrier to win.

On the flip side, Wednesday is probably the toughest match of their current road trip. If Elliot can get past Vancouver, and gets another game, he has the possibility of getting a few more starts, in my mind. Elliot is young and like most back-ups wants a starting gig. When Leclaire went down, he shined for a bit until he came down to earth. His problem, I think, has been consistency. He may not be playing for the starting gig in St. Louis, but he's certainly trying to get enough time to show off what he's capable of.

In any case, sorry for the long rambling response. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm reading Elliot.

I should note that I grabbed him today on a gut reaction. In three seasons of fantasy hockey, my gut has let me down more than a few times, but I'm willing to roll the dice on Elliot. I don't think he has usurped Halak by any stretch of the imagination, but he's given the Blues some options, which may get him some starts down the line. Plus, the Halak owner in my league is a jerk who's a panicky, reactionary guy. He missed the boat on Elliot on the wire so I'm hoping that he can put together a few good starts for me so I can ransom him off to the Halak owner. (Fine, a little evil...whatever).
